Attracting more visitors to local relic sites

Da Nang is now home to a special national-level, 18 national-level and 51 municipal-level relic sites, plus 4 national intangible cultural heritages. There are also 40 other relic sites which have yet to be recognised as national, municipal or district-level sites, along with hundreds of special intangible cultural heritages.

Amongst them, the Museum of Cham Sculpture and the Marble Mountains have been becoming more popular with locals and visitors as they welcome a daily average of thousands of visitors.

In addition, the Museum of Da Nang has attracted a large number of domestic and foreign visitors over recent years.

So far this year, the museum has hosted a total of 131,337 visitors, 109,989 of whom were foreigners.

Mr Tran Van Chuan, Head of the museum’s Education-Communications Office, said that these positive results have been mainly attributed to the great efforts of the museum’s leaders and its staff members in renewing the mode of operation and advertisement.

The focus has been on advertising the images of the museum by traditional ways and on social networks.  

Heed has been paid to arranging exhibition spaces, organising numerous exciting activities, offering drinking and eating services, selling souvenirs, , and providing free internet connection for visitors.

Since its operation in late 2016, the Fine Arts Museum at 78 Le Duan has become an excellent place for fine arts lovers.

Starting from July 2017, the admission fee has been required for the museum, and as a result a total of 6,246 entrance tickets were sold last year. In the first half of this year alone, 6,153 tickets in total were sold.

In attempting to attract more visitors to the museum, top priority has been given to join forces with the city’s Tourism Promotion Centre to advertise the images of the museum.

Importance has been attached to building the museum’s own website, designing its own logo, and printing leaflets and books to introduce works of fine arts.

Also, the museum’s leaders met with representatives from 60 local travel agents in order to ask them to add the museum to the list of places to visit in the city in their tours.

Director of the museum Ha Thanh Van noted that his museum has realised its target of becoming an ideal place for fine arts lovers, and a site for educating pupils and students about aestheticism. He, however, said that his museum has yet to become one of the most inviting destinations for tour guests.

In a similar vein, the number of visitors to such historical relic sites as Hai Chau and Thac Gian traditional communal houses, K20, B1 Hong Phuoc, Thoai Ngoc Hau, and Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village, has been still modest.

Mr Thanh Van suggested that the Travel Management Office of the municipal Tourism Department should ask local travel agencies to add cultural sites in the city to their tours in order to attract more visitors to these venues.
