According to the latest figures released by the municipal Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Bureau, over the past 10 days, there has seen a significant increase in the total number of breeding animals slaughtered for food.
In particular, an average of over 1,600 pigs, 100 oxen and nearly 5,000 poultry are slaughtered at slaughterhouses across the city per day.
Mr Tran Thi Tai, Vice Chairwoman of the Bureau, said in addition to meat products supplied by breeding establishments across the city, there is the large amount of products sourced from Binh Dinh Province and some northern localities through Hoa Phuoc and Kim Lien quarantine stations.
Also, some businesses have planned to stockpile livestock and poultry meat products to ensure the sufficient supply for local residents over the forthcoming Tet Festival.
For example, the Dac Vinh Company has spent billions of VND on stocking meat products. Between 2 and 4 February, the company will sell meat under market price stabilisation programme at 10 local busy areas.
Some small traders at local traditional markets predicted that there will be a dramatic increase in the consumption of livestock and poultry meat products in the city from the 25th to 30th days of the 12th lunar month.
However, local residents should not need to worry too much about the shortage of meat products for Tet because small traders and businesses have planned to ensure sufficient supplies for consumers.
