Of this figure, the number of foreigners rose by 23.3% to hit 2.87 million, whilst domestic visitor arrivals went up by 11.2% to 4.78 million. Thanks to this, the city’s tourism sector earned an estimated 24 trillion VND in revenue, up 23.3% against 2017.

It is noticeable that the city has developed many inviting places in a bid to attract even more tourists from both home and abroad.

Notable amongst them are the Son Tra night market, and the Cau Vang (Golden Bridge) at Sun World Ba Na Hills capturing a great deal of both domestic and global attention.

Besides, there have been significant changes in infrastructure, especially the large-scale upgrade of the city’s seaports and international airport, hereby facilitating tourism activities.

Likewise, the hotel industry in the city has witnessed tremendous boom in recent years. Da Nang now has 785 accommodation establishments providing a combined total of  35,625 rooms, an increase of 92 in the number of establishments and 6,835 in the volume of rooms against 2017.

The presence of the world's largest hotel groups such as InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), AccorHotels, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Marriott International and Hilton Hotels & Resorts has partly proved that Da Nang has emerged as a magnet for FDI, hereby contributing to enhancing the city’s tourism brand and its service quality.

In his remarks, Mr Cao Tri Dung, the Chairman of the municipal Travel Association, viewed 2018 as the successful year with the expansion of the city’s tourist markets.

On the spotlights were the Da Nang greatly successful tourism promotion programmes at the Seatrade Cruise Asia Pacific (SCAP), which took place in Shanghai in October, and similar events in France.

Besides, the city hosted a large number of groups of international farmtrip and international presstrip which want to survey and write articles about the local attractions and its tourism products.

Thanks to these significant efforts, apart from such its traditional tourist markets as China and South Korea, Da Nang saw an upward trend in the number of visitors from Japan, Australia, plus American and European countries.

Last year also witnessed the opening of 5 nonstop services connecting Da Nang with   new destinations all over the world, which brought the great benefits to the tourism industry, and the progress of the entire city at large.

Noticeably, the newly-opened non-stop service connecting Da Nang with Qatar’s Doha helps the central city connect with 150 business and leisure destinations in the Middle East, Western Europe, and North America, hereby boosting trade links between Vietnamese and international businesses.

The city authorities are mulling over how to keep the development pace of the tourism industry. In addition, the municipal administration will give more active support to tourism businesses.

Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Ngo Quang Vinh underlined the significance of developing key tourism products satisfying the diversified tastes and growing demands of visitors from both home and abroad.

In particular, priorities should be given to fostering high-class marine leisure tourism products, plus cuisine, shopping and entertainment services.

At the same time, functional bodies should make innovations in organising tourism promotion programmes at home and abroad, boost the application of information technology in tourism management missions.

Also, more air routes linking Da Nang with such major markets as Australia, the USA, India and European countries should be opened as soon as possible.

Last, but not least, more support polices from the municipal government should be issued for businesses so that they can find it easier to appeal for strategic investors to pour their money into the development of coastal cuisine, shopping and entertainment services. This is highly expected to encourage domestic and foreign tourists to extend their stay periods and their spending in the city as well.
