In 2018 alone, more than 4.7 million domestic tourists arrived in the city. The figure is expected to increase to 5 million by the end of this year, and to 5.3 million by 2020.
Da Nang is emerging as a very inviting to both domestic and foreign visitor who can visit this city not only once.
A recent survey on 1,000 domestic visitors which is conducted by the Department and the city-based Duy Tan University showed that over 70% of the interviewees visited Da Nang more than once. In addition, most of tourists aged between 25 and 55 preferred to return to the city.
Besides, the average score measuring the overall satisfaction of visitors after visiting Da Nang reached 4.35 out of 5 points. Of this, nearly 83% of the interviewees rated over 4 points.
Most of domestic tourists were very satisfied with accommodation, eating, drinking and transportation services in the city.
However, more than 26% of the interviewed visitors were not satisfied with traffic problems in the city, and low traffic safety awareness of local residents.
The frequent occurrence of traffic congestion in the centre of the city, especially near the My Khe Beach, causes very difficult for visitors to get across main streets.
Specifically, domestic visitors complained that they usually take much time to snake through the heavy traffic flows on such coastal streets as Vo Nguyen Giap and Truong Sa, especially during rush hours.
In addition, the environmental sanitation at some popular attractions has yet to be ensured, and there is a shortage of public toilets there.
Leaders of the Department of Tourism said that in the coming time greater efforts would be made to improve the quality of tourism services for domestic tourists with a focus on ensuring safe and friendly tourism environment.
More public and mobile toilets will be installed across the city. Meanwhile, more effective measures will be taken to stop the harassment of tourists, and deal with illegal street vendors at such attractions as Hai Van Pass, Marble Mountains Tourist Area, Museum of Cham Sculpture, and Trung Vuong Theater.
In fact, apart from Da Nang, there are many inviting destinations across the country such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, and Phu Yen.
In addition, the seaside city has seen an upward trend in the number of tour bookings for public holidays because the cost of travelling to such foreign countries as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea is now cheaper than that of travelling to domestic localities.
In a bid to attract even more domestic visitors to the city, more effective solutions will be taken.
In detail, heed will be paid to boosting the efficiency of tourism cooperation with the coastal provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam, as well as fostering cooperative activities with central highlands localities.
As for the northern and southern tourist markets, Da Nang will continue to improve the quality of such tourism products as marine and MICE (Meetings-Incentives-Conferences-Exhibitions).
In addition, importance will be attached to widely publicising the city's tourism products and cultural events in the mass media, especially social network sites.
Besides, the city will continue coordinating with airlines and 3 to 5-star hotels to launch promotion packages, including air tickets and hotel room rates at reasonable prices.
