The river is considered one of the city’s most important waterways, and it boasts abundant aquatic resources to develop time-honoured speciality food such as ‘Goi ca’ (raw fish salad) Nam O, and ‘Ca Doi Cu De’ (grey mullet).

In addition, the river has great potential for promoting the development of river tourism.

If visitors have a chance to take a sightseeing boat tour along this peaceful rural river, they will have the opportunity to discover the beauty of the Trung Nghia, Hoa My, Da Son and Xuan Duong village communal houses in Lien Chieu District which have been recognised as city-level historical and cultural relic sites.

In addition, the boat tour will provide the opportunity for tourists to visit ancient wells and tombs, the Nam O ‘nuoc mam’ (fish sauce) village, and some historical relic sites, including the Thuy Tu Bridge, the Dinh and Dau dunes, the Vang Tunnel, the Ba Stone, and the Cam Mountain.

However, the city has yet to tap its full potential of the river for developing eco-tourism, especially waterway tourism.

In attempting to promote the development of river tourism, the Lien Chieu District authorities have made a plan about developing tourism services along the Cu De River during the 2019 - 2021 period, with a vision towards 2025.

Under the plan, during the 2019 - 2020 period the focus will be on upgrading tourist boats, building piers, restaurants and public toilet, installing power supply and automatic watering systems, and planting more trees.

Over the 2020 - 2021 period, with a visions towards 2025, some historical relic sites in Lien Chieu District will be restored, whilst roads along the river will be upgraded.
