In particular, residential groups in Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward have been frequently suffering from unexpected power outages.

Mr Nguyen D.T from Nai Hien Dong Ward said his family and neighbourhoods have continuously suffered from sudden power cuts in addition to power outage schedule which was announced in advance to them by the Da Nang Power Company.

Mr Phan Huy Hoang residing in the same ward remarked several days ago unplanned power outages occurred in his residential group from 11.00pm until 5.00am in the following day, which negatively affected his family members’ sleep, especially children.

A spokesperson for the Da Nang Power Company said over recent days the city’s total power consumption has reached a peak of 562 MW, up around 15% compared with the same period last year. Specifically, Son Tra District saw a record increase by 22% in the power consumption.

The Da Nang Power Company is making every effort to ensure stable electricity supply in a bid to meet the increasing demand of local residents and production and business establishments.

Mr Vo Hoa, Deputy Director of the Company, said his company has taken the initiative to maintain medium-voltage power lines on such major streets as Vo Nguyen Giap, Ngu Hanh Son, Ho Nghinh, Vo Van Kiet, Pham Van Dong, Tran Hung Dao and Ngo Quyen. This has helped to enhance the stability and reliability of power supply in Son Tra District during the recent hot weather and the ongoing Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2019.

Besides, the focus has been on increasing cross-section of conductors to improve the transmission capacity of medium-voltage power lines, and strengthening checks of power grids.

“My company has also applied online Pupillary Distance (PD) measurement technology and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) methodology in order to enhance the efficiency of maintenance work”, Mr Ho emphasised.

Also, the company has promoted the application of information technology such as the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, data collection and management systems, and the technical management support programme from AMI remote collection system. The purpose is to closely monitor the reliable operation of power cables, transformer stations, and equipment to prevent electrical accidents caused by power overload.
