Da Nang Party Central Committee Secretary Truong Quang Nghia on Monday chaired a meeting regarding the implementation of some key projects in Da Nang. Most notable amongst them are the upgrade of some facilities in the Khanh Son Landfill, the Mikazuki Spa & Hotel Resort project, the Thuan Phuoc new urban area, and a complex of financial, commercial, entertainment, casino and luxury apartments in Phuoc My Ward.

Also attended at the event were municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho and other key city leaders.

Secretary Nghia highlighted the importance of using advanced technologies meeting the city’s waste treatment requirements at a 5.3ha waste treatment plant with a total daily capacity of 1,000 tonnes located in the Khanh Son Landfill in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District.

In addition, procedures and preparation steps must be implemented in a prompt fashion so that the project can be completed in 2023.

Meanwhile, functional local bodies were urged to create a master plan of upgrading the Khanh Son landfill into an ecological solid waste treatment complex, thereby enabling the city to deal with overloaded dumps and environmental pollution here.

Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment To Van Hung said that the results of recently monitoring the air quality at the Khanh Son landfill and adjacent residential areas show that all the important indicators are within the allowed limits.

At present, 95% of the whole landfill site has been covered with large-sized water-proof tarpaulin sheets to alleviate leachate-caused sickening stench wafting off the burial sites and prevent rainwater from seeping into them, especially during the rainy season. Meanwhile, the remaining 15% remained open in order to dump the rubbish.

Workers from the Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company have raised the frequency of deodorant sprays to 6 times per day from 4 times as previously.

Also, the creation of leachate collection system to ensure its synchronous operation with the 2nd stage of the leachate treatment plant having a daily treatment capacity of 1,050m3 has been kept on track.

Work is slated to start in September on the building of an energy-from-waste incinerator with a daily treatment capacity of 1,000 tonnes of trash in the landfill site, and it is expected to be put into operation in June 2022.

Also at the meeting, Secretary Nghia agreed on the construction of a pedestrian bridge across Nguyen Tat Thanh and Vo Nguyen Giap streets with the aim of providing a safe mode of passage for walkers.

The Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company was tasked with deploying a project for increasing the capacity of the An Trach salt water pumping station whose operation is highly expected to provide a secure supply of water to the whole city.

With regard to the development of a complex of financial, commercial, entertainment, casino and luxury apartments in Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District, it is highly recommended that this project must become a strong magnet for domestic and foreign invesment.

Specific requirements regarding this project will be announced at the Da Nang Investment Forum 2020, which is scheduled to take place in the city in September.

Relevant agencies were urged to submit a report on the Thuan Phuoc new urban area project to the Party Committee for consideration.
