Tourism stimulating programme helps Da Nang's hospitality industry recover
Da Nang’s landmark tourism stimulus programme themed ‘Da Nang Thank You 2020’, launched from May 23 to 31 June, with active involvement of the government and businesses in Da Nang, prove its high efficiency in making the seaside city more inviting in the eyes of domestic visitors.

The latest statistics released by the municipal Department of Tourism show that till date, the city's tourism has recorded many positive signals as visitor numbers to Da Nang in June increased by 85% compared to May. In particular, domestic visitor arrivals in the city soared by 90% to reach 209,292.
In June, the number of travellers staying at local serviced accommodation establishments climbed by 60% against May.
Also encouragingly, the room occupancy rates at 4 to 5-star hotels reached 30%, up by 65% compared to that recorded in the previous month.
Under a month-long programme, a series of attractive stimulus packages were launched citywide. It was reported that that 3-day/2-night service packages at 5 and 3-star hotels were sold to about 4,500 tourists.
Till date, 1,016 accommodation establishments offering a combined number of 42,206 rooms have reopened to welcome their guests.
Mr Cao Tri Dung, the Chairman of the municipal Travel Association, acknowledged that the launch of the ‘Da Nang Thank You 2020’ campaign is considered to be bold and timely action by the Da Nang government to help the tourism sector recover from the coronavirus crisis.
More than 200 businesses operating in the tourism industry have actively participated in this highly practical programme.
There is no doubt that Da Nang is now one of the Vietnamese localities that have gained positive results in the hospitality industry, boasting the highest number of domestic tourist arrivals.
Not only did the ‘Da Nang Thank You 2020’ leverage the tourism industry to bounce back post-pandemic, but it also helped to speed up the performance of trade and service activities citywide.
Latest figures released by the city’s Department of Tourism show that customer numbers welcomed by local restaurants, spas, shops and entertainment establishments jumped by about 50% compared to the time before the official launch of the programme.
The retail sales of goods reached at 4,898 billion VND in June, up more than 9.4% compared to May, and a rise of 2.3% against the same period in 2019. The revenue generated from accommodation and catering services was estimated at 1,282 billion VND, up 12.3% versus the month-ago period.
Besides, in its efforts to promote tourism and increase international tourist arrivals, Da Nang signed an agreement with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) last month.
Under the agreement, a 30-second video highlighting the beauty of Da Nang will be shown on BBC’s Asia-Pacific channel daily at intervals of peak hours from 6.00am - 9.30am, 9.30am - 5.00pm, 5.00pm - 7.00pm, and 7.00pm - midnight.
Da Nang will be advertised on the BBC channel during June for a total of 98 times for the promotion of the city as a dynamic, friendly and safe destination for international tourists with rich traditional culture and unique and diverse cuisines.
In addition to the ‘Da Nang Thank You 2020’, in the time to come, the municipal Department of Tourism will develop more effective solutions to make Da Nang’s tourism sector more attractive and help it thrive from now to late this year.
