A representative from the MM Mega Market Da Nang said his unit has stockpiled thousands of tonnes of food and consumer goods totalling over 68 billion VND in order to secure the supply over the upcoming festival. Best-selling products are expected to be rice, glutinous rice, processed and canned foods, fruits, Tet specialities, and beverages.

Mr Nguyen Thanh Nhuan, Director of the Central Viet Nam branch of the Viet Nam Industrial Livestock Production Company (VISSAN), said his company planned to offer 277 tonnes of frozen and processed meat, totalling over 20 billion VND, in a bid to meet the increasing demand of local residents.

As planned, meat will be sold under market price stabilisation programme at 15-16 locations across the city between 9 and 11 February. The meat will be stored by Da Nang branch of the CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Da Nang-based Dac Vinh Company and the Hai Thuyen Services and Trading Co., Ltd.

Within these days leading to the Tet Festival, staff of Da Nang Market Management Bureau will increase their checks, and make every effort to ensure that the goods will be sold at the displayed prices. Specifically, stricter penalties will be imposed on those who increase prices of essential goods excessively due to the scarcity of goods to generate illicit profits.

Heed also will be paid to dealing with smuggling, trading in fake goods and poor-quality items, and commercial fraud.
