Tet (Lunar New Year) is a precious time of the year for family reunions, but dozens of migrant workers in construction across Da Nang will be missing out this year as the city is concentrating on pushing for the progress of its key project to keep them on track. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 resurgence in some Vietnamese localities have turned complicated, which lead to suspension on passenger transport services connecting Da Nang with Vietnamese coronavirus-hit localities.

The implementation of the 2nd stage of a leachate treatment plant at the Khanh Son Landfill in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, is progressing well.

Over recent days, construction sites of these projects have seen a busy, bustling working atmosphere as all of the workers have been racing against time to speed up the deployment tempo after previous stagnations mainly triggered by the COVID-19 crisis and harsh weather conditions raging the past year.
Construction workers on these construction sites will enjoy Tet far from home.

Ready to enjoy Tet at the construction site

The implementation of the 2nd stage of a leachate treatment plant at the Khanh Son Landfill in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, is progressing well.

Engineer Hoang Van Tung at the construction site, said many engineers and workers coming from such localities as Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have yet to returnto their hometowns for nearly a year. Over the past time, he and other workers have focused on overcoming difficulties and striving to complete necessary work items as soon as possible to return home for family reunion at Tet. But now, due to the urgent work requirements and the complicated pandemic, employees like him are ready to enjoy Tet far from home.

“Even if I have to sacrifice my Tet holiday to be at the construction site. I’m very willing to do so”, said Tung.

Bustling ambiance has been recorded at construction sites of such key transport projects as the traffic re-arrangement project at the western end of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge, DH2 and DT 601 streets, western ring roads and the northwest traffic axis route.

The active initiative to promote the application of new advanced technology and the around-the-clock working spirit has demonstrated the high determination of the construction units to keep the project progress on schedule no mater what challenges or obstacles face them during the deployment duration.

Many construction workers are now kept on alternating day and night shift schedules, regardless of weekends, to keep progress on track.

Up to 100 workers on duty at a water environment improvement project east of Son Tra District, for instance, have geared up their high sense of responsibility to complete construction items by June 2021 at the latest.

“I really wanted to go back to my family this Tet but everyone (at the site) has agreed and cheered each other up to work on the mission to finish the work on schedule”, a worker said.

Speeding up construction progress prior Tet

According to, Mr Huynh Anh Vu from the Management Board for the Da Nang Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects, his unit has directed contractors to speed up the construction of wastewater collection pipelines and a wastewater pumping station in the My An - My Khe area, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts so as to quickly return the road surface at Tet. Till date, the major work items have been completed.

Likewise, General Director of the Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company Ho Huong said that his affiliated units have accelerated the construction of water supply infrastructure at the Cau Do Water Plant, along coastal roads and the Thang Long route.

Till date, danger warnings and barriers at works have been erected at these construction sites. Besides, environmental cleanups at these venues have been conducted to ensure urban face for Tet.
