Charity market helps disadvantaged people in Da Nang celebrate Tet

A charity market opened on Saturday at the Sao Nam Junior High School in Hai Chau District , Da Nang.

Hosted by the Phuoc Ninh Ward authorities, the event aimed to help local disadvantaged people to enjoy a warm and happy Tet.

In an effort to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the charity event in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, market-goers were required to have their temperatures checked, and clean their hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer gel before doing shopping there.

The event’s organisers gave a combined total of 300 coupons to the poor, the disabled, and single elderly people in the locality. Each coupon owner was allowed to choose and buy some products totalling a maximum of 900,000 VND on market shelves for zero dong.

On sale at the charity market were such essential goods as vegetables, meat, chicken eggs, rice, instant noodles, 'banh chung' (square sticky rice cakes) and 'banh tet' (cylindrical glutinous rice cakes).

In addition, visitors to the market received cash gifts of 150,000 VND each.

Chairman of the Phuoc Ninh Ward People's Committee Huynh Hai said that the total cost of such charity market was up to 280 million VND which was funded by the ward authorities and generous philanthropists citywide.
