In recent days, the Bai Ngang fishing wharf located in Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward has seen the bustling trading ambience created by a large number of many fishermen and seafood traders. This has seen as a positive sign of the successful Year of the Buffalo for Da Nang’s fishing industry.

Many fishing vessels have had bumper catches of fish, shrimps, squid and tiny shrimps after their night-time inshore fishing trips.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Kiem from Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward happily said his boat netted several kilos of fresh tiny shrimps which were sold at 500,000 VND in total in its first inshore fishing trip of the Lunar New Year.

“After only 3 hours of conducting an inshore fishing trip, we caught several kilos of fish, snails, crabs, and tinny shrimps, and they were quickly sold out with a total amount of 800,000 VND” said fisherman Do Thanh Quang from Tho Quang Ward.

Mr Quang said that he was very eager to start his next trips to the Hoang Sa waters during the current favourable weather, and hoped that he will have a year of successful trips.

Fisherman Do Binh from Quang Ngai Province’s Duc Pho District said that his fishing boat left for the Hoang Sa fishing ground two days before Tet, and returned on the fifth day of the first lunar month.

He said that he felt very happy with his first profitable catch of the year - a large volume of tuna-mackerel, valued at around 300 million VND in total.

It was reported that, soon after Tet, many fishing vessels from Central Viet Nam headed out to sea for their first post-Tet trips to the Hoang Sa waters.

Currently, many of the vessels at the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf are busy making preparations for their next offshore trips with a hope for bumper catch in Vietnamese waters.
