Creating even more night tourism products in tandem with promoting the great potential of beautiful beaches is one of the most effective measures being promoted by Da Nang tourism industry during this current context.

 the An Thuong tourist quarter.
The An Thuong tourist quarter is expected to be more bustling and attractive once  night-time entertainment activities at My An Beach take shape in the coming time.

After a period of research and consultation with other relevant agencies, the Da Nang Department of Tourism has made proposals to the municipal administration on features of a project to boost the city’s night-time economy over the 2021 – 2025 period.

The night-time economy, usually dubbed as a ‘gold mine’ for the hospitality sector, describes economic activity taking place in the evening after many people finish daytime employment or formal education, such as eating and drinking, entertainment, and nightlife.

Besides, as per suggestions by the tourism industry, Da Nang government has issued a plan to pilot night-time entertainment activities at My An Beach, Ngu Hanh Son District as a positive step to create a number of night-time service products associated with the An Thuong tourist quarter.

Between 2021 and 2025, the top priority will be given to developing the city’s noticeable brand ‘Da Nang by Night’, which features a series of sparkling and colourful decorative arts lighting shows themed ‘River of Light’, night-time activities and services in the An Thuong venue, cultural events, festivals and arts shows, the discovery of Da Nang culinary space, and the ‘Happy hours’ programme.

When implemented, the My An Beach and ‘Da Nang by Night’ projects are highly expected to create a vibrant and attractive night tourism space stretching from the mainland to the coastline.

Previously, domestic tourism experts underlined a must-do for Vietnamese localities serving tourists to allow the operation of more restaurants, malls and entertainment areas after midnight to attract tourists. In fact, sightseeing attracts one-time tourists, but shopping and entertainment keep them coming back.

Mr Le Tan Thanh Tung, Deputy General Director of the Vitours highlighted the significance of night-time tourism products, of which beaches are considered an indispensable attraction magnet, to stimulate travel demand, and create a sustainable development momentum for the hospitality industry in the coming time as well.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit globally, Da Nang welcomed more than 8 million tourists in 2019, accompanied with an impressive annual growth rate of more than 20% in terms of tourist numbers.

Actually, the great potential of Da Nang beaches have yet to be fully tapped over recent years, which shows such a huge pity on the precious treasures the Mother Nature bestows on the city.

There is no denying that the formation of sea-based night-time tourism products is in line with the local tourism industry’s development strategies towards diversifying international tourist markets, especially attracting more from Europe, the US and Australia.

It is good idea to create closed experience tours to Da Nang, promote publicity campaigns, avoid unfair competition and launch a legal corridor for night-time tourism products.

The Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourism beaches will be in charge of organising night-time entertainment activities along My An Beach from April 2021 to April 2023 with the aim of bringing up an attractive new look to local beaches.

Accordingly, the deployment area is expected to extend from Nguyen Van Thoai Beach to the intersection of Hoang Ke Viem Route with a total length of 865m.

Tourism products planned to be piloted will include food truck, a large motorized vehicle (such as a van) or trailer, equipped to cook, prepare, serve, and/or sell food, outdoor staging events associated with community-based activities, folk games, movie screenings on the beach, check-in spots, massage therapy service on the beach and amusement places for children.

Besides, such other auxiliary activities as street music, arts portrait painting, calligraphy arts and ‘The Little Mermaid’-themed photography service will entertain impressively both locals and visitors.

“We are in rush to complete the preparation stages (for the above-mentioned products) in order to put some initial services on a pilot basis, and then continue to perfect them gradually”, said Nguyen Duc Vu, Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourism beaches.
