Da Nang strives to become leading Vietnamese locality in marine economy

Given its advantage of being one of the Vietnamese localities boasting very favourable geographical position of marine economy, Da Nang, itself, should seek more ways to promote marine economic development, and realise of its target of securing a berth in the top destinations in Viet Nam in marine economic progress by 2030.

The aforementioned recommendation was made by Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Nhat during the Wednesday working session with representatives from the Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company.

Deputy Minister Nhat urged the company to uphold its important role in promoting marine economy, especially the maritime industry.

In the short term, it is an urgent task to commence work on the Lien Chieu deep-sea mega-port to capture competitive advantages, in tandem with expanding operations at the existing Tien Sa port, said Deputy Minister Nhat.

Mr Tran Le Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Directors cum Acting General Director of the Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, said, 2020 saw Da Nang Port remain strong on its feet in pursuing the ‘dual mission’ of complying with COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures in tandem with achieving the set targets.

In 2020, the Da Nang Port earned more than 904 billion VND in revenue, up 9.8% against the previous year, and its pre-tax profit reached 260 billion VND. More than 550,000 TEUs in total were transported through the Tien Sa Port, up 17% against the previous year in cargo volumes.

These encouraging results, hereby, marked a milestone for the Da Nang Port to become one of Viet Nam’s ten largest container ports, and seek a berth in the top five prestigious logistics units of the Vietnamese port operation industry.

In 2021, the Da Nang Port targets to earn one trillion VND in revenue. It is expected to handle 12.5 million tonnes, including 630,000 TEUs this year.

In order to meet the increasing demand for handling container cargos, this year’s focus will be on upgrading the Tien Sa Port’s infrastructure system, and developing a 20ha container depot in Hoa Nhon Commune, Hoa Vang District.
