Da Nang aims to increase seafood output in coming time
According to the report of the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total seafood catches by local fishing fleets in 2020 reached 34,348 tonnes, accounting for 91% of the year’s target. During the first half of this year, the total amount of seafood caught by local fishermen stood at an estimated 21,295 tonnes, reaching 56% of this year’s target.
In the remaining months of this year, functional local authorities will keep a close eye on well performing the management of fishing vessels according to decentralisation rules, and developing groups of fishing vessels operating offshore and inshore.
Also, the priority will be given to mobilising fishing vessels with a length of 15m or above to join fishing teams, and implementing a project for supporting fishermen who catch seafood along coastal areas to properly change livelihoods.
Da Nang’s fishery performance results mentioned above were released at a review meeting held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to seek solutions to improve the efficiency of seafood exploitation, processing and consumption.
Over the past five months, the whole country recorded a catching volume of 1.67 million tonnes of aquatic products, and an export turnover of US$3.2 billion, up 12% from the same period last year.
The Vietnamese seafood industry is striving to achieve an overall marine catches of 3.61 million tonnes, 4. 9 million tonnes of inland aquatic products, and a seafood export value of US$ 8.6 billion.
