In the last 2 days of the lunar year of the Ox, there was a sudden increase in the number of market-goers. Both sellers and buyers were seen strictly adhering to the city's COVID-19 prevention and control, including wearing face masks.
Right from the early morning of the last day of the lunar year of the Ox, wet markets were filled with shoppers looking for fresh and delicious food, and votive papers, to offer to the gods for Tet.
As observed by our reporter, hustling and bustling trading ambience has been reported in such large markets as Con, Han, Dong Da and Moi, or small markets in residential areas. Market stalls selling fruits, 'banh chung', 'banh tet', tea, votive papers and vegetables were packed with shoppers.
Tet market is a bountiful day for fresh vegetables, tubers, fruits and flowers because housewives often wait until the last days of the last lunar month to buy these items with the desire to prolong the "fresh time" during Tet.
The prices of fruits increase by VND10,000-20,000 per kg compared to normal weekdays. In detail, the highest increase was reported in dragon fruits which are on sale at VND50,000 per kg and custard apples at VND140,000 per kg.
