Food, drink & shops around Da Nang bustling again with more customers after students' return to universities

In recent days, stores, food and drink establishments along with wet markets across Da Nang have gradually become bustling as college and university students have ​​returned to campus after a long time of virtual learning at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The business situation of food establishments, coffee shops, bookstores located near to colleges and universities is getting better after students have returned to universities. Such venues located on the city’s streets like Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, Nui Thanh, and Luong Nhu Hoc became more crowded.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, the owner of Lien Eatery located at 521 Nui Thanh Street, Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, Hai Chau District, said that her eatery has seen an impressive 30% increase in sales since February 14 due to higher demand for food from college and university students.

Besides, cafes, bubble tea stores along with other drinking establishments became bustling again.

Milano coffee shop located at 44 Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street, Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, Hai Chau District is an example, and guest numbers to this shop have doubled on weekdays and even tripled on weekends. Growing number of guests to the coffee shop has made its business flourish. In its efforts to ensure the safety of its staff and guests in the context of COVID-19, Milano coffee shop requires its staff to wear face coverings during service, and undergo periodic COVID-19 testing in addition to asking its customers to check in with a QR code. Besides, having customers order and pay up front at the counter and calling them when their drinks are ready aims to limit contact between the shop’s staff and their customers in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus.

In a similar vein, food and beverage stores located on Ngo Si Lien Street, Hoa Khanh Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District are crowded with customers. These venues are recovering well with more customers visiting. Lights switched on at many karaoke bars while cleanup at these venues were conducted in order prepare themselves for reopening following the municipal government’s approval for resumption of some entertainment services.

Thousands of college and university students across Da Nang have returned to campus in the new normal in line with the latest national government’s guidelines, helping to promote purchasing power and stimulate economic activity in the city, as well as contributing to driving the city’s trade recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
