Da Nang government strives to cut recurrent expenditure by 60%

The Da Nang government has released an action program for practicing thrift and opposing waste in the 2021-2025 period.

The city targets to cut its public spending by 60% and most of the cuts will be in recurrent expenditure. High priority will be given to increasing spending in a bid to boost the city’s growth. The city plans to trim state budget capital spending by 10% on average every year. By 2025, at least 20% of public non-business units in the city will become financially self-sufficient.

As for the management, exploitation and use of natural resources, by 2025, the city will take effective measures to make sure that 80% of the city’s large reservoirs are controlled and monitored to ensure required minimum flow in the river system to sustain ecosystem services. Online water quality monitoring and management system will be developed for 70% of the city’s large river basins. Special attention will be given to further promoting forest management, protection and development, and biodiversity conservation in a bid to achieve a stable forest coverage rate of 47%.

As for energy saving, by 2025, the city will reduce power losses in distribution systems by below 6.5% while the energy-saving over the total final energy consumption against business as-usual (BAU) scenario to reach 5 to 7 % from 2021 to 2025. In addition, the city also sets saving goals in the management and use of public investment capital, public properties, and workforce and working time.
