A number of construction works are scheduled to be inaugurated, and some key projects will be deployed across Da Nang in March 2022. Meanwhile, manufacturing activities in the city are maintaining the recovery momentum, and especially tourism, one of the city’s spearhead economic sectors, is reactivated after a long hiatus due to the COVID-19. All create new momentum for the city to drive its post-pandemic socio-economic recovery.

Enhancing efficiency of public investment resources

The most highlight of March 2022 will be the inauguration of a traffic infrastructure project at the western end of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge after two years of construction to mark the 47th anniversary of the city’s liberation on March 29.

Covering an area of 131,521m2 in the wards of Hoa Cuong Bac and Hoa Thuan Dong, Hai Chau District, the VND723 billion, 3-level traffic project borders Binh Minh 6 Street to the north, 29 March to the south, the Han River to the east, and military agencies and residential areas to the west.

The lowest level is a 4-lane road tunnel taking Duy Tan under the busy junctions with Le Dinh Tham and the western end of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge. The upper level on ground is a roundabout, whilst the highest level is a 14m-wide 4-lane steel overpass over 2 September Street. There are also two 6m-wide frontage roads at the both sides of the overpass.

“The development of traffic infrastructure at western end of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge is one of the city’s key projects which are of great significance to the local socio-economic development. Once it is put into use, the project will significantly reduce the current traffic congestion at intersections nearby during peak hours, in a tandem with reducing the volume of traffic on roads leading to the Da Nang International Airport” noted Deputy Director in charge of the municipal Department of Transport Bui Hong Trung.

The traffic infrastructure project is also a highlight of the urban infrastructure landscape with architectural design of a tunnel and impressive light-filled doorways, thereby making this place become one of the city’s tourist attractions.

Meanwhile, the Ngo Quyen - Ngu Hanh Son route upgrade project has been flexible in both construction and operation on the basis of ensuring traffic safety in association with promoting the local economic development.

Accordingly, a section of Ngo Quyen Street between its intersection with Nguyen Cong Tru Street and the Tien Sa Port has been already completed and opened to traffic.

After being upgraded, the renovated section has been initially proving effective in ensuring the smooth traffic flows and reducing traffic accidents related to tractors and trucks entering and leaving the city's Tien Sa Port, thereby indirectly contributing to increasing the volume of goods transported through the port, and stimulating the local economic growth.

Only in the first two months of 2022, the volume of goods transported through the Da Nang Port went up by 1.62% over the same period last year to reach more than 1.57 million tonnes.

Besides, the construction of the 1st stage of the Hoa Lien Water Plant in Hoa Vang District, with a total investment of more than VND1,170 billion, has been basically completed.

Aside from key traffic and urban works, the city has paid special attention to developing tourism infrastructure with the aim to tempt tourists back.

Recently, the municipal Department of Transport has announced the opening of inland waterway passenger transportation route in the Son Tra Peninsula.

According to Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beach Nguyen Duc Vu, currently the development of infrastructure for CT15 inland wharf has been already completed and ready to be in use.

Mobilising more resources for infrastructure development

Currently, Da Nang is making its efforts to enhance the efficiency of urban infrastructure development and prepare for the return of international tourists with the development of new tourism products and the launch of incentive programmes, which has created investment resources for the city’s social development.

Most notably, work on March 22 started on the Fusion Hotel Tower in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District. Co-invested by Lodgis Hospitality Holdings and VinaLiving under VinaCapital Group, the 18-storey hotel with 175 rooms (a total of 182 bedrooms) is part of the Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang with a total investment of US$ 50 million.

“Despite the complicated developments of COVID-19, we are committed to ensuring the on-scheduled completion of the project. The project shows the revival birth of Da Nang tourism industry after over-2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic” remarked Peter Meyer, CEO of the Lodgis Hospitality Holdings.

Also in March, the ITL Logistics Da Nang One Member Co., Ltd. plans to start construction of the ITL Logistics Da Nang Centre in the expanded Hoa Khanh Industrial Park.

The VND200 billion project will provide ready-built factories for lease according to international standards, warehouse system, logistics services and shared infrastructure.

Most recently, the Board of Directors of the Da Nang Rubber JSC (DRC) has decided to pour more than VND900 billion into the expansion of its truck tyre manufacturing factory. Once completed, the factory will increase its capacity from 600,000 tires/year to one million tires/year.

Currently, in the first quarter of 2022, DRC's production value exceeds 18% of the plan, up 10% over the same period last year with revenue reaching VND1,164 billion, up 28% over the same period last year. The company is expected to earn VND5,034 billion in revenue in 2022, up 14.9% against 2021.

In addition, Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved the development of second phase of the Hoa Cam Industrial Park in Da Nang at a total cost of over VND 2,200 billion.

Invested by Anh Phat Trading and Construction Investment Corporation, the new development is located in Hoa Tho Tay Ward, Cam Le District, and it covers a total area of 120 ha and costs an estimated VND 2,233 billion.

The project promises to boost industrial real estate market, thereby attracting more investment into the city and driving the local socio-economic growth.
