In attendance at the event were Japanese Consul General in Da Nang Yakabe Yoshinori, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee cum Head of the National Assembly Deputies’ delegation Nguyen Van Quang, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Quang Nam and leaders of some local departments and agencies.

In his remarks at the meeting, Chairman Chinh said that in the past time, Sumitomo Group and BRG Group have studied the expansion of subdivision planning projects on the basis of adjustments to the master plan for Da Nang to 2030 with a vision to 2045, including the 1,300ha expanded Da Nang Airport sub-division and seaport urban area.

He said he would like Japanese Consul General Yakabe Yoshinori to continue giving special care and active support for investors to deploy such aforementioned projects in the city soon.

In reply, the Japanese diplomat Yakabe Yoshinori affirmed that Da Nang was one of the important strategic points in Japan's foreign policy. Therefore, the Japanese government showed keen interest in Japanese-invested projects in the coastal city, especially to the Lien Chieu Port which is one of the key projects that aim to turn Da Nang into a main logistics centre along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).

The Japanese guest added Sumitomo Corporation is one of the major investment and trading groups in Japan, and it has extensive experience in high-quality infrastructure construction. He, therefore, expressed his expectation that the bilateral cooperation relations between Da Nang and Sumitomo Group would prove successful through the Lien Chieu Port projects and other infrastructure ones in the city.

During the meeting, representatives from Sumitomo Group and BRG Group reported the progress of the aforementioned projects. Meanwhile, the Da Nang Department of Transport and related units responded to the content proposed by investors related to the two groups-proposed projects.

Earlier, as part of his 4-day business trip to Japan in November 2020 in order to accompany Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh exchanged signed memoranda of understanding on the implementation of infrastructure projects in Da Nang with representatives from Sumitomo Corporation and BRG Group JSC (Viet Nam) under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other delegates.

Under the deals, the three sides will jointly conduct research and develop a handful of infrastructure projects in the city, as well as call for financial assistance from relevant agencies to realise those projects.
