Farmers in Da Nang urgently harvest rice
Farmers in Da Nang’s Hoa Vang District are busy harvesting rice to protect production results as recent unseasonal rainfalls have damaged rice crops in the locality.

The Hoa Tien 1 General Business and Production Service Cooperative in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, has recently mobilised farmers and rice harvesters to harvest rice in low-lying paddy fields in villages in Hoa Tien Commune.
Many cooperative members and farmers are excited when they can harvest rice with a yield of 4-4.5 quintals/pole (about 64-73 quintals/ha). Although the yield is not as high as last year’s winter-spring crop, according to many farmers, this year's winter-spring rice crop is quite good.
The Hoa Chau 1 General Business and Production Service Cooperative in Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang District, has arranged four rice harvesters to actively harvest rice in low-lying paddy fields and areas of flattened rice plants.
According to initial estimates, the average rice yield of the cooperative is about 75 quintals/ha, equivalent to last year's winter-spring crop.
However, at this time, domestic rice prices are falling much lower than last year's winter-spring crop. Meanwhile, the price of fertiliser used by farmers has doubled, so the economic value is not high.
In order to avoid further damage to farmers, the Hoa Chau 1 General Business and Production Service Cooperative has contacted a seed company to purchase freshly-harvested rice from farmers at the price of VND5,700/kg which is higher than market price.
Low-lying paddy fields and areas of flattened rice plants are prioritised being harvested first to avoid further damage due to heavy rain that is likely to occur in the coming days. |
