Visitors to Da Nang set to surge for holiday of April 30 and May 1

Da Nang is expecting to see a surge in tourist arrivals over the forthcoming 4-day break for the National Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) holidays as compared to the last holiday of the Hung Kings' death anniversary.

Room occupation capacity increases

According to the latest statistics released by the municipal Department of Tourism, as of April 2022, about 1,000 tourism businesses have resumed their operations, accounting for more than 60% of the total.

Of which, there have been 600 accommodation establishments offering a total of 27,200 rooms, 190 travel agencies, 170 passenger transport service providers with 2,100 vehicles, and 18 tourist boats. Also, 16/16 tourist attractions have reopened their doors to the public.

Some large travel companies such as the Da Nang branch of Vietravel Company, the Saigontourist Travel Company, and the Viet Nam Travelmart JSC, have received 40-50 groups of guests with a total of 4,000-4,500.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Deputy General Director of the Hai Van Cat International Travel JSC, predicted that Da Nang will welcome a large number of visitors over the forthcoming holiday thanks to the full resumption of domestic direct flights between Da Nang and Ha Noi, and Ho Chi Minh City.

He added, in addition to exploiting passengers travelling by air, the company expects to receive nearly 1,000 tourists, close to half of which will come to Da Nang by train or their cars.

It is expected that the room occupancy rate at 4 to 5-star hotels will reach at about 70-75% over the forthcoming public holiday.

Many seaside tourist resorts and hotels along Vo Nguyen Giap Street have room occupancy rate of more than 90% and do not accept additional bookings.

Meanwhile, the room occupancy rates at some 4 to 5-star hotels in such downtown streets as Bach Dang, February 3, and Nguyen Van Linh is about 50%, and at 3-star hotels at 30-40%.

Up to now, about 1,000 guests have booked preferential packages in the Da Nang Tourism Stimulus Programme 2022 themed ‘Enjoy Da Nang’.

About 400 domestic and international flights to Da Nang

According to the municipal Department of Tourism, Da Nang expects to receive 58,720 air passengers on about 400 domestic and international flights during the 4-day holiday break. Of this, there will be about 376 domestic flights bringing a total of 56,800 passengers to the city, and the remaining 24 will be international flights carrying an estimate of 1,920 passengers.

According to updated information released by Vietjet Air, the first resumed flight between Incheon (South Korea) and Da Nang is expected to be full on April 29.

Meanwhile, The Vietnam Airlines Group, comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO will increase frequencies for National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1) with flights from major Vietnamese cities and several localities nationwide in order to meet increasing passenger demand.

Between April 24 and May 4, the Vietnam Airlines Group will operate extra flights on two major routes from Ha Noi to Hue, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Da Lat and Phu Quoc, from Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to Da Nang, Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc.

Additional 46 flights will be operated between HCMC and Da Nang while 40 more flights will be conducted between Ha Noi and Da Nang, additional 38 flights between Ha Noi and Nha Trang, additional 26 ones between HCMC and Nha Trang, 22 more ones between HCMC to Phu Quoc, and an increase of 14 to 18 flights to other Vietnamese destinations.

In sum, Vietnam Airlines Group has added more than 255 flights, equivalent to 50,000 seats, bringing the total supply of the entire domestic and international network to nearly 2,700 flights with more than 524,000 seats between April 24 and May 4.

Along with the increase in flight numbers, airfares are soaring day by day ahead of the holiday and most of tickets have been sold out.

For example, On Vietnam Airlines flights from Ha Noi to Phu Quoc on April 29, the lowest economy-class ticket costs more than VND4.1 million (US$178.54) one way while business-class ticket costs nearly VND7 million ($304.83).

In the return trip, on May 2 and 3, passengers will have to pay the same prices as those of departure flights.

Also on this route on the two peak days above, Vietjet reported that all business-class tickets have been sold out, and passengers for the remaining classes have to pay VND3.2-3.5 million/trip/ticket.

Bamboo Airways flights were fully booked some weeks ago. There are only a few seats available at the lowest price of more than VND3 million/ticket/way and the highest price of nearly 6 VND million/ticket/way.

Growing demand for trains and road transport vehicles

According to Mrs. Le Thi Tuyen from the city’s Railway Station, train tickets between Ho Chi Minh City and Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon and Da Nang on the evening of April 29 and the morning of April 30 are almost sold out.

During the forthcoming public holiday, railway transport companies still provide discount train tickets and special offers for its passengers. Specifically, passengers who are heroic Vietnamese mothers, war invalids, social policy beneficiaries, victims of Agent Orange, disable people, students and children will have their ticket prices reduced under the national laws. Passengers who buy round-trip tickets will have their ticket prices cut by 5% for their return tickets.

Mrs. Phan Thi Ngoc Lan, Deputy General Director of the Da Nang Coach Station Management and Transport JSC, said that to meet the growing travel demand of people over the upcoming public holiday, the unit has asked passenger transport service providers to arrange a sufficient number of vehicles.

Specifically, each unit plans to increase about 30% of the number of vehicles to serve travellers.
