June 03, 2022, 17:29 [GMT+7]
As noted by our repoters this morning, June 3 (the 5th day of the 5th lunar month), from early morning, Da Nang’s residents were busy buying offerings for the Mid-year Festival, also known as the Parasite-Killing Festival or ‘Tet Doan Ngo’ in Vietnamese, making the trading atmosphere at wet markets in the city more bustling than usual.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, a stallholder at the Dong Da Market in Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District, said that the price of unstuffed ‘banh u tro’, which are pyramid-shaped sticky rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves, is set at VND17,000/dozen, a decrease of VND2,000 as compared to yesterday. Meanwhile, the stuffed ‘banh u tro’ are on sale at the prices of VND50,000/dozen.
The prices of chicken and duck meat tends to increase as compared to normal days due to higher consumer demand during Mid-year Festival.
The prices of some fruit types with high purchasing power, such as mango, mangosteen and watermelon have slightly increased by 10-15%.
This year, the number of lychees is not much due to the bad season, unlike the previous year.
