According to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, in 2019, Da Nang welcomed a total of 8.5 million visitors. Five million of them were domestic tourists whilst the remaining 3.5 million were foreigners.
Over the past two years, the city's tourism industry has conducted many online marketing campaigns to promote local tourism images, thereby helping the city remain among the top attractive and potential destinations for travellers.
The most obvious proof is that Da Nang has been selected as a destination for regional and international events when the pandemic is basically under control like now. In the near future, Da Nang will continue deploying many activities to promote the development of its service industry in general and tourism in particular.
Specifically, in terms of route development, by 2024, Da Nang aims to resume the number and frequency of international flights as before COVID-19.
As for its market development orientation, Da Nang targets to restore the traditional tourist markets of Northeast Asian countries, including China, South Korea and Japan because of a large number of visitors, and their similarities in culture and service ecosystem with the city.
Regarding the diversification of tourist sources, the city will concentrate on connecting with international airports, and increasing trade and tourism exchanges with Southeast Asian countries, at the same time targeting the potential Indian market.
These markets currently have an active opening-up policy, along with good diplomatic ties with Da Nang, which can forecast great potential in trade and tourism exchanges in the time ahead.
According to Mr. Dinh Viet Son, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, up to now, domestic air transport activities have reached nearly the same level as before COVID-19 when there are a daily average of more than 100 flights connecting Da Nang with Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, and Buon Ma Thuot.
For the international market, Vietnamese and foreign airlines have resumed international flights connecting Da Nang with Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Seoul and Daegu (South Korea). In early July, Da Nang plans to resume its air service with Japan’s Tokyo, add new airlines and raise the frequency on existing routes.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam is still accepting proposals relating to the resumption of Vietnamese and foreign airlines-operated international routes to or from Da Nang.
