The Da Nang government has approved adjustments on detailed planning at a scale of 1:500 for the Lien Chieu Port and the coastal route connecting the soon-to-be-constructed port in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District.

According to the recently adjusted detailed planning, a total of 469.55ha will be earmarked for the building of the Lien Chieu Port and the coastal route. The area will be bordered by the Hai Van Pass to north, the mouth of Cu De River to south, the Da Nang Bay to east, and a bypass to the south of the Hai Van Road, a coastal embankment in a residential area in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward and the Lien Chieu Industrial Park to west.

Specifically, the Lien Chieu Port will cover an area of 450ha. 19.55ha will be earmarked for building a route connecting the port with a bypass to the south of the Hai Van Road, especially a 6-lane coastal road connecting the entrance road to the Port with the bypass will be 2.95km long. The area will have maximum population size of 3,000 workers.

With the adjustments, the Lien Chieu Port will feature a total of 8 container terminals with a total length of 2,750m, allowing access of cargo ships of 30,000-200,000 DWT. In particular, the terminals can receive cargo ships of up to 8,000 TEUs at the first phase and up to 18,000 TEUs (equivalent to 200,000 DWT) in the long term.

There will be a total of 6 general terminals with a total length of 1,550m. The outside areas of the general terminals are planned to receive cargo ships of up to 100,000DWT, whilst the inside areas will be dedicated for ships of about 30,000DWT.

An inland terminal area will be dedicated for ships and barges with a tonnage of up to 5,000 DWT in service of the collection and dividing of goods for the container terminals which will transport cargoes to other seaports and inland waterways nationwide. The total length of the inland terminal area will be 1,200m.

Also, six liquid/gas cargo terminals receiving vessels of up to 30,000 DWT, including an area to relocate the existing liquid cargo terminals, will be constructed. They will be located in the breakwater area and connected to the breakwater by a bridge. The liquid/gas cargo terminals will be arranged at a safe distance from other works in the planning and in the vicinity.

The railway warehouse area, which will be built behind the container terminals, will be used as a loading and unloading yard for railway goods in order to directly connect the Lien Chieu Port with the national railway network.

The 2,090m-long breakwater embankment will be constructed in a bid to ensure wave protection in the northeast and east-northeast directions.

In addition, there will be other technical infrastructure and administrative areas, warehouses, green trees, shared transportation systems and other functional areas.
