At 7:00 am, local traders specialising in selling dry food at the downtown Han Market have displayed eye-catching goods for sale. As overserved, every stall hires 1-2 more sales assistants. "Hurry up, baby, pack well, weigh enough...", Mrs. Tuyet, a holder of a dry speciality stall, urged the sales assistants.
She said, since the start of June, the number of visitors has gone up sharply, so the business is much better. As noted, from 9:00am onwards, customers begin shopping at the market, the aisles are full and the voices of sellers and buyers create a bustling ambiance in the whole market.
Not only the dry food area is crowded, but the fashion clothing area on the 2nd floor is also bustling with tourists shopping for ‘ao dai’. Ms. Nguyen Thi An, a saleswoman at a fashion footwear stand, said: "FromMay till now, the number of visitors to the market has increased sharply, especially during the hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4.00 a.m.."
Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of the Han Market Authority added that, recently, international visitors, especially South Korean tourists, have returned to the market. Accordingly, the average number of visitors is about 1,000 people/day, about 1,500 - 2,000 people/day on weekends, up 50% as compared to the previous time.
As recorded at the Con Market on July 14, even though it's the middle of the week, from the parking lot to the market premises were crowded with people coming in and out.
At the stalls of ready-made foods and fashion items, there were many customers. According to Ms. Trinh Thi Lanh, the owner of a cloth stall at the market, purchasing power started to increase sharply over the past 2 months thanks to a hike in the number of foreign tourists and traders.
In particular, the number of Asian and northern visitors to the market is quite large during this summer's peak season. Mr. Nguyen Dac Hung, Head of Con Market Authority informed that the average number of visitors to the market is 4,000 - 5,000 people/day, domestic tourists are increasing day by day. The Con Market seems to have completely restored operations with the same number of visitors as before COVID-19.

“Customers come to the supermarket not only to shop, but also to visit and use entertainment and dining services…At this time, students are on summer break, and parents let their children go out in large numbers, so shopping volume continues to go up. This is a positive signal for businesses after a long time facing many difficulties due to the upheavals of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mr. Nguyen Dac Thuan, Marketing Manager of the Co.opmart Da Nang supermarket.
According to the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, trade and service growth bouncing back after over 2 years of stagnation shows that people's consumption is increasing gradually. Continuing the growth momentum, the programme on economic and social recovery and development of the industry and trade sector also emphasised on creating favourable conditions for businesses and business establishments, with a focus on supporting enterprises in export promotion, mainly through the support and connection of Vietnamese Trade Offices in other countries; encouraging enterprises to participate in online trade promotion activities.
