Currently, the Non Nuoc stone carving village brings high economic benefits to Ngu Hanh Son District as it earns nearly VND100 billion in revenue per year.
The village now has a combined total of 475 large and small-sized stone carving establishments, an increase from 349 in 2004, plus more than 20 enterprises.
Previously, stones served production in the village were directly exploited from the Marble Mountains. However, to preserve and embellish the scenic spot, raw materials are mainly sourced from such localities as Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Thai Nguyen with the output of more than 25,000 tons per year.
Under the skillful hands of craftsmen, sophisticated works of art are carved and become more attractive to tourists from both home and abroad.
Well-known craftsmen of the Non Nuoc craft village are Nguyen Long Buu, Nguyen Viet Minh, Nguyen Sang and Le Ben.
As one of the oldest stone carving establishment in the village, Mr. Dang Huu Thong, residing at 12 Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street, said that, in 2017, he only imported raw stones at the prices of VND13 million /block, but this year, the prices increase to VND15 million/block, causing many difficulties in production and business activities.
“Despite price escalation and a sharp decrease in demand, we are now trying to advertise Non Nuoc stone carving products on social networking sites and at places where tourists gather. And we only make products when customers place orders for them. No matter what, we still try to adapt to preserve and develop Non Nuoc stone carving traditional craft" added Mr. Thong
