Da Nang airport eyes to become international one at level 4E

The Da Nang administration has proposed the Ministry of Transport to appraise and approve the adjustment plan of the Da Nang International Airport for the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.

Accordingly, in the 2021 - 2030 period, the current runways will be maintained (upgraded and renovated when needed), ensuring the operation of class E aircraft. After 2030, with a vision towards 2050, focus will be on keeping RWY 35R/17L, upgrading and renovating to meet the exploitation capacity, constructing RWY 35L/17R with centerline of RWY 35R/17L, approximately 375.5m with dimensions of 3,190 x 45m.

As for the passenger terminal, in the 2021-2030 period, the current T2 terminal for international operation will remain unchanged. The T1 terminal to the southeast of the airport will be expanded. The 2 terminals will be connected by a 170m long bridge.

After 2030, with an eye towards 2050, work will start on building a new 2-storey domestic terminal T3 to the southeast of the airport, with a capacity of 15 million passengers/year, with a station construction area of nearly 9,500 m2, and renovating terminal T1 in combination with terminal T2 for international operations.

For aircraft aprons, in the 2021 - 2030 period, it will be expanded to the southeast to reach 73 aircraft parking positions, including 68 parking positions for passenger aircraft, 2 parking positions for cargo aircraft, and 2 parking positions for Hangars and one for isolated aircraft.

After 2030, with a vision towards 2050, the eastern apron will keep the same configuration as the period until 2030, in addition with building a new apron for western aircraft with 19 parking positions for aircraft (including 14 parking positions for overnight aircraft and cargo aircraft, 5 parking positions for Hangars and one for general and private aircraft).

As for the cargo terminal, in the 2021 - 2030 period to build the eastern cargo terminal (the location of the cargo terminal area is arranged according to Decision No. 3066/QD-BGTVT dated August 26, 2015). After 2030, with a vision to 2050, work will start on building a new western cargo terminal in combination with logistics.

The target of the Adjustment Plan of Da Nang International Airport for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision towards 2050 is to reach the level 4E international airport according to the regulations of ICAO, International Civil Aviation Organisation and the military airport level I.

The annual passenger transport volume by 2030 will reach 25 million and by 2050 it will reach 30 million and the freight output will hit 200,000 tonnes.

In total, there are 92 aircraft parking positions at the Da Nang International Airport, operating aircraft with code E or lower such as B747, B777, B787, A320, A321, A350 and equivalent; Class I military aircraft.

According to the Department of Transport, the Ministry of Transport has recently submitted a document to the Prime Minister requesting approval of the master plan on development of the national airport system in the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision towards 2050 as the basis implementation of the next steps.

On that basis, the city has submitted a report to the Ministry of Transport for the appraisal and approval of the adjustment plan of the Da Nang International Port for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision towards 2050 to ensure timely completion of the adjustments to the master plan of the Da Nang international airport after the Prime Minister approved the master plan on development of the national airport system in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.
