The tourism potential of the Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach has yet to be fully tapped and to be developed properly, so the beach is currently mainly used for the needs of local residents.

Many large investors have been implementing large-scale projects along the Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal route. In the photo: A corner of the Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach is seen near the Da Nang Mikazuki Japanese Resorts & Spa. Photo: M.Q

Mr. Le Dong, residing in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District, said although the city has developed more facilities along the Nguyen Tat Thanh route, the entertainment services here are still limited. Most of beachgoers are local dwellers, and there are not many tourists.

Meanwhile, Mr. Cao Thanh Trung from Ha Noi said he has visited Da Nang many times, and he has only gone swimming and experienced tourism activities at such popular beaches as My Khe and Bac My An.

According to Mr. Trung, the landscape, infrastructure and entertainment activities as well at these beaches meet the needs of tourists better than Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach.

According to research, the reasons why the Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach has not really attracted tourists is thought to be the specific width of the sandy shore and the limited land fund earmarked for coastal service development make it difficult for the city to upgrade and develop tourism services there.

Currently, technical infrastructure and public utilities (electricity, water, ceramic bricks, sidewalks, approach roads to the sea) have not been synchronously invested.

The construction of major power grid infrastructure and drainage systems is negatively affecting the urban beauty on sidewalks and the beach.

Last, but not at least, an amount of black wastewater is usually found being discharged directly into the sea. This matter often causes environmental pollution and unpleasant odour to some families living nearby, especially beachgoers.

Most recently, the city has focused on building park squares combined with parking lots, including the Ha Khe Square based in Thanh Khe District, aiming to create an entertainment space for both locals and visitors.

Additionally, the city has been calling for investment into some items under the Nam O community-based tourism project, as well as more than 200 sidewalk benches and 4 beach sports areas, in order meet the public demand for beach sports and entertainment.

According to Mr. Phan Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches, the city is deploying a concept plan for the sea route landscape by an architectural planning design consultant from France to continue to perfect the design of the sea route landscape, parking facilities, highlights, architectural icons, marinas and tourist services along the route.

Besides, the city has also assigned the Management Board to make a plan for managing and exploiting the beaches, with focuses on developing tourism services, setting up night-time bathing areas, and calling for investment into general service clusters, freshwater bathing areas, and marine entertainment spots.

During the preparation of the project, the Management Board will propose to pilot tourism service clusters based on the results of the service pilot model at the My An Beach.

Mr. Hai expects that the project will gradually contribute to the basis and motivation for tourism development on the Nguyen Tat Thanh route, thereby promoting the tourism potential of the Da Nang Bay.

The positive signal is that many large investors have been implementing large-scale projects along this route and adjacent areas such as Shizen Nami, Da Nang Mikazuki Japanese Resorts & Spa, Nam O Resort, and the Lang Van tourist resort and entertainment complex.

Mr. Phung Dinh Mai, Head of Communication Department of the Da Nang Mikazuki Japanese Resorts & Spa, said that under the projects according to the city's master plan by 2025, the Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach will be an important factor in driving the city’s tourism.
