In its efforts to seek consumption markets for Da Nang’s livestock products, and agricultural products as a whole, the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has cooperated with the Department of Industry and Trade to promote livestock products at fairs, farmers' markets and OCOP stores, and on e-commerce platforms.

Stepping up marketing campaigns

Mr. Cao Van Toi from the Dong Nghe General Service and Production Cooperative based in Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, said that the cooperative's products include freshwater fish, chickens and ducks raised under the biological safety model.

Most livestock products are fresh, cleaned and vacuumed products and they have been introduced at fairs.

“At fairs, thousands of people have visited our booth and surveyed our products. Thanks to this, our cooperative has had the opportunity to introduce our products to a large number of consumers in the city as well as from other provinces and cities nationwide. Up to now, the Dong Nghe hill chicken brand name has been recognised by many customers, contributing to helping the cooperative to increase consumption volume” informed Mr. Toi.

As a unit specialising in the production, distribution and trading of herbal foods, the Peco Food Co., Ltd. based in Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District, has built a breeding process with many households involved and owns one processing factory in Da Nang.

Currently, the company is paying special attention to processing and conducting marketing campaigns about dishes made from herbal pork.

The company has also cooperated with a number of households in Hoa Phuoc Commune to develop a project on applying herbs on poultry and models of vegetables, tubers and fruits.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tai, the company's representative, said the livestock industry has always faced many worries. In particular, breeders are worried about price fluctuations and diseases, whilst consumers worry that the meat source is not safe from the abuse of banned substances and antibiotics in livestock, affecting meat quality and health.

He, therefore, highlighted the significance of the company’s business model in not only ensuring livelihoods for livestock farmers but also providing ‘clean and safe’ products that meet the needs of consumers.

“Currently, the company's products are still not widely known by consumers, so we have actively participated in fairs and supply and demand connection conferences to expand our cónumption market not only in Da Nang but also to localities nationwide” added he.

Active support for breeders

In fact, the city's livestock products only meet 10-15% of residents’ consumption needs, and the rest are imported from other provinces and cities nationwide. Therefore, the cooperation of the agriculture and industry and trade sectors focuses on promoting circulation and consumption of products imported from localities into the city.

In recent years, the city’s livestock industry has paid special attention to creating chain linkages and boosting supply-demand connection in production, thereby helping to connect producers with cooperatives and businesses to be proactive in the production of livestock products and ensuring safe production process and food quality as well.

The Da Nang Centre for Fishery - Agriculture - Forestry Extension has initially acted as a bridge to connect and support chicken raising households, including the Ke Son Chicken Cooperative Group, and the Nhon Phat Chicken Cooperative, to promote the consumption of broiler products. This has gained confidence for the chicken raising households to let loose, take advantage of garden and hill land, and at the same to time create high quality broiler products and ensure food safety and hygiene for consumers, increasingly contributing to developing the brand name of Hoa Vang hill and free-range chickens.

According to Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Phu Ban, a number of cooperatives in the field of husbandry have been recently estbalished in Hoa Vang District, including the Nhon Phat Chicken Cooperative, Ke Son Chicken Cooperative Group, Hoa Bac General Service Cooperative, and Dong Nghe General Production and Service Cooperative.

The city’s agriculture and rural development industry has supported the cooperatives to develop safe farming and livestock extension models, and provided them with equipment for production, processing and packaging of livestock products.

In order to promote livestock products and find consumption markets for ‘Made-in-Da Nang’ agricultural products in general and livestock products in particular, the city’s sectors of agriculture and trade and industry have joined efforts to promote trade promotion activities through the introduction of livestock products at fairs, farmers' markets and OCOP stores, and on e-commerce platforms.

Furthermore, such livestock products as chickens and eggs will be introduced and sold at OCOP stores, whilst training courses on skills to put agricultural products on the e-commerce platforms will be organised for farmers, and members of the cooperative groups and cooperatives.
