During the meeting, the two sides have discussed results of the ‘Dioxin Contamination Removal’ project at Da Nang International Airport which was jointly implemented by the Ministry of National Defence of Viet Nam and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) during the 2012-2018 period.

As a result, between 2016 and 2018, 32.4ha of dioxin-contaminated soil and sediment were treated.

The US Embassy in Viet Nam has agreed to continue supporting Da Nang International Airport to develop infrastructure in the land where the dioxin contamination removal has completed, as well as soon solidify the surface of the wetland in order to completely solve the risk of re-infection in the reservoir.

US diplomat Marc E. Knapper has assigned the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to assist Da Nang International Airport in receiving advanced US materials and technologies in service of maintaining runways and degraded airport infrastructure from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
