A variety of fresh flowers, gifts on sale for Teachers' Day
As the Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20) is approaching, the fresh flower and gift market is heating up with a variety of products offered at reasonable prices.
As observed by our reporter, stalls selling fresh flowers and gifts have been set up along such downtown streets as Le Duan, Le Loi and Ton Duc Thang.
It is reported that the price of fresh flowers, especially roses, on sale in the local market on this special occasion has increased by between 30% and 40% compared with normal days. In particular, the wholesale price of flowers now ranges between VND7,000 and VND10,000 per sprig, whilst the retail price fluctuates from VND15,000-VND20,000 per sprig.
Meanwhile, baskets of different kinds of flowers are offered at the prices of VND250,000-VND2.5 million each, depending on size and intricacy.
Compared to the same time last year, the prices of flowers and gifts have increased slightly by 10-15% depending on the types. The hike in flower prices on this occasion is also partly influenced by many impacts, mainly increased transportation and raw material costs.
Mrs. Le Thi Tien, the owner of a flower stall in front of the University of Education - the University of Da Nang, said that she imported a smaller number of flowers and gifts than previous years because she was afraid that she would not sell them all due to the hike in prices and unfavourable weather conditions.
Along with fresh flowers, souvenir and gift shops, and fashion stores, across the city are packed with buyers. Consumer products, including shower gel and cosmetics, are chosen by many people because of their affordable prices ranging from VND80,000 to VND500,000/product. The prices of gift items such as cosmetics, clothes, shoes, fabrics and ao dai remain stable. Customers tend to choose practical, highly usable and affordable gifts.
