The Da Nang government has asked the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport to approve adjustments to planning for the Da Nang International Airport in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

The target of the planning adjustments for the Da Nang Airport is to help it reach the level 4E international airport under ICAO standards, and the level I military airport. The Da Nang airport will be able to cater to 25 million passengers every year by 2030, 30 million passengers by 2050 while air freight traffic throughput at the aiport is expected to reach 200,000 tons per annum.

There will be 92 aircraft parking positions that are able to accommodate operation of for Code –E or smaller type aircrafts such as B747, B777, B787, A320, A321, A350 and equivalent, code F 747-8 aircraft, and class I military aircrafts.

In its efforts to realise the above planning goals after 2030, the Da Nang Airport will build a new runway 35L/17R with its center line located about 375m the center of the runway 35R/17L, and it will have 3,190 m long and 45 m wide.

As for the apron, in the period of 2021-2030, the Da Nang government has proposed to expand aircraft standing on the East Apron of the Da Nang Airport with 73 new parking positions and 19 new parking positions on the West Apron after 2030. Under the adjustments, the existing T2 terminal will be kept unchanged while the southeastern expansion of terminal T1 will be carried out. In addition, the  two terminals will be connected by a 170m- long sky bridge.

Mobilisation of investment capital into the planning adjustments for the Da Nang Airport will be divided into 3 phases. In detail, VND 6,623 billion will be required for the 2021-2025 period, VND 9,455 billion for the 2025 to 2030 period, and VND 7,921 billion for the period after 2030 with a vision to 2050. Overall, the planning adjustments for the Da Nang Airport will cost up to VND 30,999 billion, including costs of project management, and site clearance.

Over recent years, the Da Nang Airport has been invested to be able to handle 4 million passengers per annum with domestic terminals being able to cater to 5-6 million passengers every year. However, continuous growth in passenger traffic from 2010 to 2019 caused the Airport overloading, greatly affecting its service quality.
