Da Nang stimulates consumption demand, stabilizing prices at year-end

With more than one month left to the Tet Festival 2023, distributors and retailers across Da Nang have almost finished preparing sources of goods, while the local industry and trade sector is expected to spend about VND2,300 billion on stockpiling essential goods to serve the Tet market.

Commodity prices are kept stable

According to Mr. Tran Minh Dung, General Director of the Viettronimex Supermarket, although the goods stored and prepared by businesses to serve the 2023 Lunar New Year are quite diverse and abundant, consumer demand has not increased as strongly as in the years before COVID-19. Therefore, the prices of goods are currently stable.

Meanwhile, the MM Mega Market plans to increase the volume of stored goods by 20-30% compared to the Year of Tiger 2022, and by 40-50% compared to normal months. Notably, the volume of fresh food, essential goods, confectionery and jam will see a 100% increase.

Director of the MM Mega Market Nguyen Tien Duong said that the supermarket has increased the supply of fashion, beauty and home decoration products, and at the same time, ensured the supply and good prices for necessities on the Tet holiday.

At the Danavimart Supermarket, the volume of essential goods, cakes and sweets for Tet has gone up by 30% compared to normal days. The supermarket will start to launch a number of shopping stimulus programmes with discounts of up to 70%. from mid-December.

Director of Danavimart Supermarket Phan Nhu Yen commented this year’s purchasing power is likely to be not as high as previous years’, but her unit still prepares unique and high-end products to meet the needs of customers over the upcoming Tet holiday.

According to surveys conducted at the Con and Dong Da markets, the supply of goods is quite abundant. Stallholders said that this year's Tet market is more difficult to predict than other years’ because consumers continue to limit spending. Therefore, they have not stocked so many goods, and just focused on keep prices stable for consumers.

In recent days, the total volume of fruits and vegetables transported to the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market has risen to 390-410 tonnes/day on average. It is expected that, from now until the end of the year, consumption demand will increase, so the output of vegetables and tubers to the market will be abundant, ensuring the supply for local consumers.

Increasing stockpiles for Tet

According to the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, till date, the plan to reserve essential goods and organize sales for the 2023 Lunar New Year has been completed.

In particularly, 19 production and business units, trade centers, supermarkets, and markets have stockpiled 352 tonnes of rice and sticky rice of all kinds, more than 4,000 tonnes of meat of all kinds, 900 tonnes of vegetables and fruits of all kinds, 647 tonnes of processed and canned food, 288 tonnes of dried food, and 796 tonnes of cakes, candies, jam and melon seeds of all kinds with a total value of nearly VND2,300 billion.

Besides, stallholders at Con, Han, Dong Da and Hoa Cuong wholesale markets are about to pour nearly VND740 billion into storing essential goods for Tet, including  69 tonnes of sticky rice, nearly 30 tonnes of meat of all kinds, more than 4,000 tonnes of vegetables, tubers and fruits.

Similarly, enterprises supplying livestock and poultry meat, commercial centers, and supermarkets have spent nearly VND915 billion on stockpile goods in preparation for the forthcoming Tet holiday.

Grocery stores in residential areas, and on specialised streets have stockpiled goods with an estimated value of over VND 645 billion.

Particularly for petroleum products, the petroleum storage and supply system in the city, including 8 warehouses and retail gas stations, have reserved nearly 1.2 million m3 of imported petroleum.

The average consumption of gasoline in the city is about 90,000m3/month, due to the increased demand for travel and freight during Tet, and that is expected to increase by 20% in the coming time. The focal and distribution units still ensure adequate supply of petrol and oil to serve the needs of locals.

Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Le Thi Kim Phuong said that her agency will strengthen supervision and coordination with the Market Management Department and relevant units to monitor and proactively grasp the supply and demand of goods, and market prices.

Efforts will be made to promptly monitor, detect and prevent acts of speculation, hoarding abd unfair competition, as well as fight against trafficking in prohibited, smuggled, fake, counterfeit and poor-quality goods before, during and after the Tet holiday 2023.

Da Nang Spring Fair 2023 to feature 250 booths

The Da Nang Spring Fair 2023 is slated to take place at the city’s Exhibition and Convention Center, 9 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, Cam Le District, from January 11 - 16, 2023 (from the 20th - 25th days of the 12th lunar month).

The event will feature a total of about 250 booths selling such products as handicrafts, garments, leather shoes, fashion items, food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals. Also, there will be a general booth to introduce speciality products of Da Nang.

18 locations selling pork at stable prices

In an attempt to meet the increasing demand for pork in the days leading up to the Tet Festival 2023, the city will organise sale programmes of pork at stable prices at 18 locations in busy areas from January 18 - 20, 2023 (the 27th -29th days of the 12th lunar month).

These points of sale will be concentrated in markets near residential areas in the city, aiming to bring high-quality products, with a clear source of origin, to local workers and rural residents at reasonable prices to help them celebrate Tet.
