According to sellers, this year’s purchasing power for Christmas and New Year decorations is lower than in previous years’. However, this year’s prices of decorative items are about 10-15% higher than last year’s, and the number of imported goods is also less than previous years’.

The main reason is thought to be that many residents are cutting down on Christmas decorations owing to a hike in shipping costs, and difficult economic situation.

Ms. Pham Kim Khanh, the owner of the Sandy Store based in Thac Gian Ward, Thanh Khe District, small-sized decorative products such as tinsel, pearls, Christmas trees, Christmas hats, reindeer antlers and Christmas headbands are amongst the best-sellers. Their prices are ranging from VND5,000 to VND35,000/item.

Small and medium-sized Christmas trees that are decorated with bells and suitable for display in rooms, cost between VND150,000 and more than VND2 million/tree. Meanwhile, large-sized Christmas trees on sale at the price of over tens of millions of VND are chosen by many businesses, restaurants and hotels to display in large spaces.

Apart from Christmas trees, cloth Santa Claus, snowmen and reindeers are being sold at the prices of VND30,000 - VND200,000/item. Pre-packaged gift boxes are also available at shops selling Christmas products around Da Nang.

Notably, many shops selling Christmas products are seen promoting advertisements and sales via social networks and websites.

The prices of online decorative products are about 10-20% cheaper in those of products displayed at souvenir shops and stationery stores.

Ms. Mai Thi Anh Tuyet, the owner of the Thang Bom Shop in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, remarked that customers often tend to buy new accessories, and update color trends to decorate their smartphones, promoting the sales of this type to grow better than those of traditional stores.

In addition to the numerous shopping options, Christmas decoration and gift delivery services have started to flourish across the city.

Accordingly, the price of renting young men being dressed up as Santa Clauses to deliver Christmas gifts to kids fluctuates from VND150,000 to VND250,000 VND/turn. Meanwhile, Christmas decoration service for agencies, schools and families is currently priced at VND100,000 - VND200,000/m² depending on the model and customer's request.

Many parents buy Christmas costumes as gifts for their children.

Decorative items such as hair clips and headbands are very popular with young customers.

The sale of Christmas decorations makes the city atmosphere more joyful.
