Da Nang strives to promote sustainable development of OCOP products
Government departments, agencies, sectors and localities across Da Nang are making every effort to synchronously implement many solutions in order to improve the value, brand positioning and quality of OCOP products.
During the 2022-2025 period, Da Nang will develop OCOP products in the direction of focus and sustainability, and enhancing added value. IN THE PHOTO: Production activities are observed at the My Phuong Food Co., Ltd. Photo: VAN HOANG |
Taking advantage of native resources
In 2021, Minkai ‘lap xuong tuoi’ (fresh Chinese sausages) by the Ho Thi Thuy Tram family-run facility in Hai Chau 1 Ward, Hai Chau District, was certified as 3-star OCOP.
In 2022, the product was upgraded to 4-star OCOP (phase 2-2022) and was granted with ISO certification.
Since joining the OCOP programme, the facility's output has increased by 20-30%. According to Mrs. Ho Thi Quynh Tram, the owner of the family-run facility, participating in the OCOP programme is a premise for further promoting the development of her product.
“This is a great advantage, creating trust and persuading customers and distributors to choose products, so business owners feel responsible and understand the value of OCOP Da Nang products”, she added.
She suggested the need for the city to strengthen the promotion of OCOP products from wards and communes to departments and units, especially taking advantage of tourism to promote OCOP Da Nang products.
Meanwhile, Ke Son chickens raised in backyard by Hoa Phong 1 Agricultural Service Cooperative have been proposed for 3-star OCOP recognition.
Mr. Nguyen Si, Director of the Cooperative, said that OCOP certified products are the driving force for the cooperative to promote the potential of the locality, and create conditions to improve the lives of locals in the commune.
He added that taking advantage of local potential and linking raw material areas are one of the decisive conditions for ensuring sustainability when developing products, especially OCOP ones.
Up to now, the cooperative has actively linked with organizations to form a chain of production links from livestock to consumption, as well as perfect products to provide consumers with clean, safe and quality products.
As the owner of the OCOP product with 5-star development potential, Mrs. Mai Thi Y Nhi, Sales Director of the My Phuong Food Co., Ltd. also said that Da Nang's OCOP products need to be associated with tourism in order to be introduced to domestic and foreign tourists, thereby helping businesses to seek potential distributors and expand their sales channels.
However, she underlined a must-do for businesses to make effective use of the city's support, and always associate product quality with the OCOP brand, in a bid to achieve the desired effect.
“In order for the OCOP programme to be implemented effectively, create sustainability and enhance value, it is necessary to join hands and support from the State, the subject and the business community” Mrs. Nhi noted.

Implementing multiple solutions synchronously
According to expert Tran The Nhu Hiep, Deputy Director of the Mekong Can Tho Institute of Science and Technology, Da Nang is not a locality that has the advantage in terms of diversity of resources and materials, so there is no need to focus on developing the number of OCOP products. Da Nang's products need to take advantage and expand exploitation and development in three groups of resources: sea and coastal areas, tourism, and cuisine.
He underlined the necessity for Da Nang to effectively implement resolutions and support policies in the coming time, including the implementation plan of the One Commune One Product Programme in the 2022-2025 period.
Importance should be attached to raising awareness of consumers and society about the OCOP program and products; expanding the scale and increasing the number of sale points of OCOP products not only in Da Nang but also in the central region; and promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation in the OCOP programme, he added.
In addition, it is necessary to implement solutions to promote product consumption such as diversifying product consumption channels, training online marketing and sales skills for subjects, building and completing the e-commerce database, connecting products, and developing e-commerce logistics for OCOP products.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Ban, Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, assessed that, after more than 2 years of implementation, the OCOP programme has made a positive change in agricultural and rural economic development. Although the number of OCOP products in Da Nang is less than that in other localities, the city always focuses on enhancing product quality, and carefully selecting, testing, evaluating and classifying products.
During the 2022-2025 period, the OCOP programme concentrates on building a sustainable value chain, promoting creativity and boosting the strength of the community, and training and improving the quality of human resources in line with local advantages.
