Efforts to soon put wastewater collection works into use
Da Nang is about to enter the peak summer tourist season, so it is very necessary to accelerate the completion, connection and operation of environmental protection works, especially wastewater collection ones, in a bid to ensure clean and beautiful landscape and environment to serve both locals and visitors.

Wastewater leaks in Han River
Over the past one month, a lot of local residents and tourists have been annoyed by unpleasant odours originating from some rain sewers that are mixed with wastewater overflowing into the Han River when going for a stroll at sight-seeing venues east of the Bach Dang and extended Bach Dang streets in Hai Chau District.
Milky white water with a bad smell was recorded to flow into the Han River on February 7 and 23, and March 6 and 11.
Strong odours are sometimes reported along landscape on the east of the Bach Dang Street opposite Thai Phien Street, especially when the water level of the Han River is low.
At the rainwater outlet of the Thuan Phuoc anti-flood pumping station, milky white wastewater is seen flowing into the river.
It is worth mentioning that, 4 years ago, many people were frustrated because wastewater often flowed into the rainwater discharge sewer of the Dao Xanh (Green Island) anti-flood pumping station near the foot of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge and leaked into the rainwater outlets along the Han River. The main reason was that the GRID sewer lines along September 2 were damaged after many years of use.
Therefore, a sewage collection pipeline project along a section of September 2 Street stretching from its intersections with Phan Thanh Tai and Thang Long routes is expected to completely solve the above problem. But for many reasons, until February 2022 work started on the project and the installation work is likely to be completed in late June 2023.
Faced with the urgent requirements of wastewater collection along the Han River, the Management Board of Traffic Work Investment and Construction Projects has urged contractors to mobilise all resources to accelerate the construction.

Da Nang is about to enter the peak summer tourist season. The completion and operation of wastewater collection and treatment works along coastal areas will limit the overflowing of wastewater to the beach, especially after heavy rains, especially at My Khe, T18 and T20 beaches in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.
Over the past time, the city has invested in building a separate wastewater collection and separation system in the basins of two My Khe and My An outlets along a section from Pham Van Dong to Ho Xuan Huong streets.
However, when it rains heavily, there is still the situation of wastewater following rainwater flowing to beaches, causing unsightly beauty and unsanitary environment for tourist beaches.
The reason is thought to be that the VND1,340 billion project to install separate wastewater collection system and sewer lines to transfer rainwater to the Han River for the basin from Ho Xuan Huong Street to Da Nang’s border with Quang Nam Province has yet to be completed. The date for completion is set on April 26, 2023.
Additionally, the item of rainwater drainage sewer to the Han River for the basin from Ho Xuan Huong Street to Pham Huu Nhat Street is currently facing problems at the intersection east of the Tien Son Bridge because it has not been approved for construction across the road managed by the Viet Nam Road Administration.
Meanwhile, the new wastewater treatment system was invested by the city in phase 2 at the Phu Loc Wastewater Treatment Station based in Thanh Khe District has just been put into trial operation.
But this system is only receiving and treating the overloaded wastewater to share with the investment wastewater treatment system in phase 1.
Currently, relevant units are preparing to connect wastewater from the wastewater collection pipeline along Nguyen Tat Thanh that has just been completed to the Phu Loc Wastewater Treatment Station to treat and ensure the environment for beaches in Thanh Khe District.
The Management Board of Traffic Work Investment and Construction Projects is urging contractors to speed up the construction of the remaining items of the project to improve the water environment east of Son Tra District to ensure the on-schedule completion of the project in August 2023, thereby contributing to ensuring the landscape and environmental sanitation of tourist beaches.
