Inauguration of Hoa Lien Water Plant at first stage

The Hoa Lien Water Plant with a capacity of 120,000m3/day at the first phase was officially inaugurated on Wednesday to mark the 48th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang (March 29).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh emphasized that the Hoa Lien Water Plant is a key, motivational and important project in ensuring security and quality of water sources in the city.

During the renovation process, Da Nang has witnessed a fairly rapid development in socio-economic and people's life, changing the urban face.

The city has paid special attention to making the most of, and making the efficient use of, natural resources, including water, in a bid to meet the requirements and objective developments of the urbanisation process.

Chairman Chinh underlined that the development of technical infrastructure, including providing clean water for residential areas and production activities, especially for urban centres and industrial parks, is identified as one of the city’s important tasks during its progress.

In addition, the protection of water resources has become an inter-provincial and transnational issue, especially for areas downstream of rivers, where water resources are more precious than ever.

In recent years, sometimes, Da Nang has faced serious salinisation in the dry season with the highest salinity levels recorded at 13,580 mg/l (nearly 50 times higher than that of the whole country, affecting people's lives and production and business activities.

According to the city’s water supply planning to 2030, the city's demand for clean water is about 800,000m3/day.

The city leader, therefore, underlined the significance of the Hoa Lien Water Plant project in promptly meeting the city's demand for water, thereby contributing to ensuring water supply for the entire city.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Construction Vo Tan Ha, the Hoa Lien Water Plant is invested with modern technology. Most of materials and equipment are imported from EU and G7 countries.

The trial operation shows that the Hoa Lien Water Plant has operated well and stably, ensuring the quality according to the design requirements. It can be integrated into the city's water supply network to provide clean water for local residents, especially in the coming summer season.

Also, the Da Nang government has assigned the Transport Infrastructure Management Centre under the municipal Department of Construction to receive the property, and directed the municipal Department of Construction to coordinate with relevant units to make suggestions about plans to operate the Hoa Lien Water Plant in order to maximise the efficiency of public investment and promptly serve the needs of clean water use of the people of Da Nang.

In the coming time, the Department of Construction will continue to review and assess the demand for clean water use throughout the city in each specific period in order to promptly propose the municipal People's Committee to invest in the second phase of the project at an appropriate time.

According to Director of the Da Nang Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects Nguyen Huu Hinh, the purpose of the Hoa Lien Water Plant at the first phase is to meet the city’s demand for water, especially the districts of Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe and Hoa Vang districts, thereby contributing to ensuring the long-term security of clean water for the people and the development and expansion of the city.

With such special significance, the project costs a total of VND1,170 billion from the city budget. It features four main items: spillway in Nam My Village, Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District; a raw water pumping station with a capacity of 120,000 m3/day at phase 1 and 240,000 m3/day at phase 2; raw water transmission pipelines with the operating capacity of 120,000m3/day in the first stage and 240,000m3/day in the second stage; and a water treatment plant with the operating capacity of 120,000m3/day in the first stage and 240,000m3/day in the second stage.

Till date, the Hoa Lien Water Plant is ready to add clean water for the city's clean water supply system to serve the needs of locals with a capacity of 120,000 m3/day.
