In the 0.63% increase in CPI, nine out of the 11 product groups recorded an increase in price index; one with a decrease and the remaining one with stability.

As for the commodity groups recording an increase compared to the previous month, traffic increased up by 4.8%; beverages and tobacco 1.57%; housing, electricity and water, fuel and construction materials 0.47%; household appliances and equipment 0.12%; food and beverage services 0.09%; medicines and medical services 0.07%; other goods and services 0.06%; culture, entertainment and tourism 0.03% and education 0.03%.

The postal and telecommunications group had a decrease of 0.32% in price index from the previous month. This was attributed to a fact that businesses carried out many promotions this month, so some phone equipment products reduced. The garment, hat, and footwear group was the only group with a stable CPI as compared to the previous month.

The main reason why the CPI of many groups of goods and services increased as compared to the previous month was that the prices of some types of ordinary rice increased due to the rice export market, causing rice prices to go by 4.59%, and therefore the food price index soared by 3.77%.

In August, gasoline prices were adjusted on August 1, 11 and 21, causing the kerosene price index to increase by 15.99% and fuel price index by 9.47%.

The hike in people's demand prompted the price of electricity and water to go by 2.12% and 0.5%, respectively.
