In his opening speech at the event, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh said that the upward trend of globalisation and international integration, along with the strong development of the 4.0 industrial revolution with a focus on digital technology, has brought the cooperation and development of countries around the world to a whole new level.

Based on bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements on economic and trade, many countries have proactively built strategies and made policies to participate in the world economy through regional and global production networks, in which the production and supply of goods from supporting industry is an indispensable link in the global value supply chain.

He informed that, in recent years, the municipal authorities have directed and promulgated many guidelines and policies to encourage the development of supporting industry so that, along with high-tech and information technology industries, the supporting industry has become three main pillars for the city’s industry development.

The city leader remarked it was very honour for Da Nang to be selected by the Ministry of Industry and Trade as the host of the 2023 Supporting and Processing Industry Expo.

The first-ever event in Da Nang aims to create favourable conditions for supporting industry enterprises and manufacturing and processing ones in Da Nang, and Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands regions, along with domestic and foreign businesses and multinational corporations, to promote links, cooperation, supply and consumption of products.

Mr. Chinh voiced his hope that the event would bring many positive results and practical benefits for businesses, contributing to promoting the development of supporting industry in Da Nang and Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands, and the country as a whole.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai affirmed that the manufacturing and processing industry always received special attention from the national Party and Government.

On November 17, 2022, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam issued the Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW on the acceleration of the national industrialisation and modernisation to 2030 with a vision to 2045. Accordingly, the development of processing and manufacturing industry is determined as the key task, whilst digital transformation is a new, groundbreaking method to shorten the process of industrialisation and modernisation.

The action plan to implement the national industrial development policy contains six main goals. By 2030, the industrial sector will make up over 40% of GDP, in which manufacturing and processing industries will account for 30%.

Resolution No. 115/NQ-CP dated August 6, 2020 of the Government on solutions to promote the development of supporting industry also clearly states that supporting industry play an important role in economic restructuring towards industrialisation and modernisation.

One of the solutions to realise the abovementioned goals is to create opportunities to form and develop domestic value chains through the effective attraction off investment and the promotion of connections and linkages between Vietnamese and multinational enterprises, and domestic and foreign manufacturing and assembly companies.

With existing strengths in geographical location, infrastructure and human resources, Da Nang still has much room for promoting the industrial development, especially manufacturing and processing industry, and supporting industry. That is the reason why the Ministry of Industry and Trade co-chairs with the Da Nang People's Committee to organise the expo.

The event helps connect businesses producing supporting industrial products; as well as promote linkages, cooperation, supply and consumption of products between supporting industry, and product processing and manufacturing enterprises, with ones specialising in producing and assembling finished products.

It gives a good opportunity to connect multinational corporations and foreign investors to create motivation to stimulate development, expand production, and increase the value of supporting industrial production of Da Nang and other provinces and cities nationwide.

The expo is expected to have a minimum scale of 160 booths operated by 120 domestic and foreign enterprises displaying products of supporting, processing and manufacturing industries in the fields of mechanical engineering, automotive production and assembly, electronics, hi-tech industries, textile, leather and footwear and other expanded supporting industries, according to Da Nang's supporting industry development policies.

It runs until September 14 at the Da Nang International Exhibition Fair Centre at 9 Cach Mang Thang Tam, Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District.

Within the framework of the event, there are many side conferences and seminars to seek financial solutions for corporate supply chains, and raise enterprises’ awareness of energy saving solutions.
