Da Nang sees September CPI up 0.6%
Da Nang’s consumer price index (CPI) in September increased by 0.6% compared to the previous month and by 3.92% against 2022, according to the city's Department of Statistics. The average CPI in the first 9 months of 2023 went up 5.74% over the same period.
In the 0.6% increase in CPI, eight out of the 11 product groups recorded an increase in price index, whilst the remaining three had a decrease in price index.
The commodity groups recording an increase compared to the previous month were education up 5.16%; traffic 0.68%; housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials 0.44%; post and telecommunications 0.37%; other goods and services 0.34%; food and beverage services 0.27%; culture, entertainment and tourism 0.2%; and household appliances and equipment 0.14%.
Three commodity groups saw price decreases, which were drugs and medical services down 0.05%; beverages and tobacco 0.09%; and garment, hats, and footwear 0.53%.
The main reason for a hike the price of many groups of goods and services was that, at the beginning of the new 2023-2024 school year, many schools at all levels in the city applied new tuition prices as only public high schools from kindergarten to grade 12 are exempted from tuition fees.
Gas retail prices in September 2023 increased by 8.29% compared to the previous month due to gas price adjustments. Rice prices went up 4.29% due to the expansion of the rice export market, causing the food price index to increase by 3.47%.
