Within the framework of their ongoing business trip to the United States, a group of Da Nang officials led by Municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh on Wednesday (local time) held a workshop on investment promotion themed ‘Da Nang – Investment Destination for Semiconductors’ in San Jose, California.

The event was co-organized by the Da Nang Investment Promotion and Support Board, and ITSJ Group Inc.

The event under the chairmanship of Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh attracted more than 30 guests who are leaders of semiconductor companies based in the United States.

The event aimed to promote Da Nang as an attractive investment destination with a focus on introducing the city’s business environment and its investment climate, its preferential policies, and policies to support investment into the city's semiconductor industry, to the U.S businesses and investors.

The event was held in the context of the gradual shift of foreign investment in the semiconductor industry to Southeast Asian countries, and the upgrade of Viet Nam - US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership with a focus on promoting their scientific and technological cooperation, including the semiconductor industry.

In his opening remarks at the workshop, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh said that the information technology, electronics, and telecommunications associated with the digital economy are identified as among the five spearhead economic sectors where Da Nang prioritizes its resources for their development.

In 2022, Da Nang's digital sector contributed 19.76% to the city’s economy. Da Nang is now home to 2,450 digital technology companies with an average of 2.3 tech companies per 1,000 population in the city, making it the second-largest tech hub in the nation, only behind Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang now has around 46,000 digital technology employees.

Under its development strategy 2030 for the information technology industry, Da Nang has prioritized promoting the development of the integrated circuit design and manufacturing industry.

Da Nang leaders wanted to collect constructive ideas on the city’s mechanisms, policies and solutions from the U.S guests in a bid to create an attractive investment climate for semiconductor manufactures. In addition, they pledged to create the most favorable conditions for foreign businesses to operate effectively in the city for mutual interests and benefits.

Da Nang Investment Promotion and Support Board Deputy Director Le Hoang Phuc said Da Nang represents the political and economic hub of the country with distinct potentials. The city boasts a plenty of opportunities for foreign investors, and it maintains competitive advantage over other Vietnamese localities. The city also boasts a synchronous socio-economic infrastructure, abundant and qualified workforce, an attractive business environment, along with a peaceful, high-quality living environment.

Da Nang identifies the United States as a strategic market to call for investment in the semiconductor industry. The Da Nang Hi-Tech Park covering an area of 1,128.40 hectares ​is the first of its kind in Central Viet Nam, and one of three national-level hi-tech parks.

The technical infrastructure of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park has been fully completed, and the park is ready to meet the production needs of investors.

Mr. Tran Thai Chau, the CEO of the ITSJ-G Company praised Da Nang for its attractive investment climate and business environment, as well as the openness and friendliness of the muncipal government.

He pledged that ITSJ-G Company would support Da Nang to develop the semiconductor supply chain in the city. He also said that ITSJ-G Company is, currently, working with its partners to carry out a microchip project in the city.

Also at the event, leaders of Da Nang along with local departments and agencies discussed maters of the US guests’ concern relato procedures, preferential policies and support of the city in investment into Da Nang Hi-Tech Park, plus the environment and quality of life in the city.

The US businesses really appreciated the information Da Nang officials gave them in order allow them to understand more about potential investment opportunities in Da Nang's semiconductor and hi-tech industry. Da Nang leaders also pledged to support the US companies to seek local partners, as well as create an effective supply chain in the city.

Also at the workshop, a Memorandum of Cooperation was entered into between the Da Nang Investment Promotion and Support Board and ITSJ-G Company. Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Da Nang Investment Promotion and Support Board and ITSJ-Group aimed to attract investment from the United States into Da Nang and support Da Nang’s businesses to participate in ITSJ-G's supply chain. Furthermore, their agreement will focus on coordination in promoting Da Nang as an attractive destination to investors and partners of ITSJ-Group, thereby creating the most favorable conditions for the city to attract investment from the United States into the city’s semiconductor industry, and its information technology industry as a whole.

On the same day, Da Nang officials had previously met with leaders of the Qorvo Company Qorvo, a leading global provider of innovative semiconductor solutions that connect, protect and power our planet.

During her meeting with Da Nang leaders, Mrs. Debra Howard, Vice President of Qorvo Company, praised Da Nang for its great potential for semiconductor industry development, especially for its high-quality human resources.

Qorvo Company leaders took the opportunity to ask for help from Da Nang to consider supporting training programs for circuit design engineers, and electrical and electronics engineers as a whole, as well as develop the city’s high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry, and increase the city’s investment into the semiconductor industry infrastructure.

Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh said that Da Nang is currently focusing on creating a plan for the development of semiconductor and integrated circuit manufacturing in the city.

Importance is also attached to creating mechanisms and policies for human resource development for the city’s semiconductor industry. Mr Minh hoped that Qorvo would consider expanding its operations into Da Nang as soon as possible in addition to its offices in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Upon the invitation of Vice Chairman Minh City, Qorvo Company leaders said they would visit Da Nang as soon as possible to seek investment opportunities in the semiconductor industry in the city.
