Da Nang officials visit US leading company in AI chip race

On Friday afternoon (local time), a group of Da Nang’s officals, led by municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, visited the Nvidia Company headquarted in the Silicon Valley, California, the US.

During the meeting, leaders of Da Nang and the Nvidia Company together discussed global emerging trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and the potential to establish and expand their cooperative relationships, especially in the context of the US and Viet Nam relations being elevated to a new level with a focus on promoting investment cooperation and innovation.

Nvidia, with its strength in producing components for AI, is predicted to surpass many formidable competitors to become the chip design company with the highest revenue in the world in 2023.

Mrs. Shilpa Kolhatkar, Global Director of AI Nations and Deputy Director of Nvidia Office, highly appreciated Viet Nam's efforts in building a favourable investment environment for US microchip and semiconductor businesses to operate effectively.

She hoped that, in the coming time, there would be many cooperation programmes in microchip and semiconductor industries with Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole.

For his part, Secretary Quang remarked that, on the basis of promoting its strengths, in the strategy of developing the semiconductor industry, Da Nang is focusing on promoting microchip design and gradually developing chip testing and packaging.

To realise the goal of becoming one of the leading investment destinations in Viet Nam for semiconductor makers , Da Nang is researching and developing appropriate preferential policies to support investors, and develop high quality human resources to meet foreign companies' requirements, he added.

The city Party chief said that the city currently has 250 microchip and electronic enterprises with 10,500 employees in total, including 550 microchip design engineers. It is expected that about 1,000 engineers will graduate from prestigious universities in the city.

Mr. Quang expressed his desire that Nvidia would support Da Nang to develop the semiconductor industry, especially contributing to the issuance of preferential mechanisms and investment support policies, technology transfer, human resource training, infrastructure investment, and the implementation of AI solutions.

Mrs. Shilpa Kolhatkar said she would soon visit Da Nang at the invitation of Mr. Quang to survey, research and build cooperation programmes to develop the specific semiconductor industry in the city in the years ahead.
