The Da Nang government and the US Synopsys company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on boosting cooperation in the semiconductor industry.

Within the framework of a roundtable connecting Vietnamese and US businesses and localities in San Francisco, the US, on November 15 (local time), the signing ceremony was witnessed by Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong who is on a trip to the US to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2023.

The deal demonstrated a common commitment, creating an official basis for cooperation in the implementation of human resource development and training programmes, and expanding the cooperation network in the semiconductor industry.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Da Nang and Synopsys will contribute to helping the central costal city to well fulfil one of the three key and groundbreaking tasks set in the municipal Party Committee’s Congress for the 2020-2025 term.

Recently, Da Nang has anticipated the wave of investment shifts and restructuring of the global chip and semiconductor industry supply chain; as well as taken advantage of cooperation opportunities from the official upgrade of Viet Nam-the US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Besides, the city has focused on conducting research and consulting with experts to develop policies for developing microchip and semiconductor industries in the city.

Also, it is currently making efforts to develop a project on developing semiconductors and microchips in the locality.

Also at the session connecting Vietnamese localities with US businesses in the field of hi-tech within the framework of the roundtable programme, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang introduced US enterprises to his city’s investment and cooperation opportunities in hi-tech field.

He remarked that the Da Nang High-Tech Park is the only of its kind in the Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands regions, and one of three multi-functional high-tech parks in the country.

Da Nang's High-Tech Park has completed its infrastructure, ready to meet the investment needs of businesses and investors. Therefore, Da Nang encourages US businesses and investors to invest in high-tech field, especially semiconductor, in the city.

US businesses highly appreciated the potential for developing high-tech in Da Nang and expressed their desire to soon have the opportunity to come to the city to research, invest, deploy and expand production and business activities.

The US-based electronic design automation (EDA) company Synopsys is a leading provider of electronic design automation solutions and services.

The company's products include tools for logic synthesis and physical design of integrated circuits, simulators for development, and debugging environments that support logic design for chips and computer systems.

Viet Nam is one of Synopsys's strategic investment locations in Asia - Pacific. Currently, Synopsys has four representative offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang with a human resource of more than 500 engineers.

As part of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working visit to the US in September 2023, Synopsys signed Memoranda of Understanding with the National Innovation Center under the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment. Investment, and with the Authority of Information and Communications Technology Industry under the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications.
