Da Nang prioritises transportation infrastructure development
Given its central location in the Central Key Economic Region and the gateway to the sea in the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC), Da Nang focuses on investing in the comprehensive and modernisation of transportation infrastructure, encompassing various modes of transport such as roads, railways, inland waterways, maritime routes, and aviation.
This not only enhances connectivity between districts and provinces but also establishes regional links, thereby creating significant momentum for the city in attracting investment and fostering local socio-economic development.

Developing transportation infrastructure in a modern direction
Da Nang has concentrated on implementing a number of projects to construct, upgrade, and expand urban transportation routes. Simultaneously, it has developed transportation infrastructure cohesively to establish inter-regional connections. This includes key roadways currently under investment for integration with the North-South expressway, as well as well-planned and modern urban transportation infrastructure.
Between 2000 and 2023, the city mobilised new investment resources, renovated and upgraded transportation infrastructure, with many crucial projects completed and put into operation, such as the Han River Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge, Thuan Phuoc Bridge, Nguyen Tri Phuong Bridge, Khue Dong Bridge, Hue T-junction overpass, a tunnel at the intersection of the Dien Bien Phu and Nguyen Tri Phuong streets, and a tunnel taking Duy Tan under the busy junctions with Nui Thanh and extended Bach Dang streets at the western end of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge.
In 2023, the transportation sector specifically made its efforts to ensure the quality of pivotal transportation projects, as well as effectively managed the maintenance of transportation infrastructure structures.
Additionally, the sector got actively involved in adjusting the Master Plan for the Comprehensive Development of the Viet Nam Seaport System for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.
Furthermore, it engaged in the planning of the North Central and Central Coastal regions for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050, as well as proposing specific mechanisms and policies in the transportation sector to create incentives for the development of Da Nang and neighboring areas.
Director of the municipal Department of Transportation Bui Hong Trung stated that in 2023, the transportation sector laid emphasis on directing and urging the swift implementation of key transportation projects. This significantly contributed to expediting the disbursement of public investment capital and promoting the local socio-economic development.
Notable among them were the inauguration and operation of the Tuyen Son - Tuy Loan riverside road, the completion of a section of West Ring Road No.2 connecting Road No. 8 in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park to the intersection at the end of the Hai Van - Tuy Loan bypass, the upgrade of the National Highway 14B, and the construction of the coastal road connecting to the Lien Chieu Port.
Simultaneously, inspections were conducted on-site, and units were directed to complete the site clearance work for several key transportation projects such as the western ring road from National Highway 14B to Ho Chi Minh Road, the upgrade of Route DT601, the renovation and upgrade of the Ngo Quyen - Ngu Hanh Son route, and the upgrade of Route DH2.
In particular, to expedite the preparation and investment disbursement, the local transportation sector proposed to the city's People's Committee and the Ministry of Transport to invest in National Highway 14G (from National Highway 14B to Lam Quang Thu Primary School) and the project to expand and upgrade National Highway 14D. The city and transportation sector also cooperated to propose the connection plan for a road connecting DT 601 road to Ho Chi Minh Road (a La Son - Hoa Lien section which belongs to the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway.
Continuing effective implementation of transportation infrastructure investment
According to the municipal Department of Transportation, in 2024, the transportation sector will focus on carrying out the program on "Concentrating on developing logistics services and seaports in order to make Da Nang a major national maritime economic centre".
It plans to coordinate with the Viet Nam Airlines Corporation to implement the project of expanding Terminal T1 and constructing a cargo terminal at Da Nang International Airport.
Additionally, heed will be on coordinating with investors to construct the Logistics Service Centre in Hoa Vang District and the logistics area within the High-Tech Park.
Furthermore, the sector will actively promote investment attraction for ports and logistics centres according to the planning, as well as continue researching and proposing competent authorities to issue supportive solutions for container transportation activities through Da Nang seaport.
Also, according to Mr Bui Hong Trung, Director of the municipal Department of Transportation, in the coming period, the transportation sector will concentrate on developing and implementing the roadmap for the implementation of the Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.
Included will be a specialised urban transportation planning for Da Nang until 2030, with a vision towards 2045, and various sector-specific projects.
Particularly, the sector will coordinate with the central government to propose special mechanisms and policies for promoting its development, including a pilot model for urban development oriented towards public transportation and other mechanisms and policies.
To enhance the efficiency of managing the use of investment capital, with a focus on vital infrastructure projects serving the development of industrial zones, high-tech zones, and transportation hubs, Da Nang is striving to create seamless connectivity between regions.
The city is actively attracting external resources through various means and investment capital from the central government to promptly complete the synchronized transportation infrastructure system, regional connectivity, with the focus on directing the dynamic progress of key transportation projects. These projects are the construction of the Lien Chieu Port and the Quang Da Bridge, the upgrade and expansion of National Highway 14B, and the coastal road connecting Lien Chieu Port.
The transportation sector continues to closely coordinate with central government ministries and relevant units to implement national transportation projects and logistics infrastructure.
Importance will be attached to continuing to research and propose investment for the construction and improvement of comprehensive transportation infrastructure to ensure regional connectivity.
