Developing specialized trading streets in Da Nang's downtown district
Hai Chau District has taken advantage of its strengths and potential to develop walking and specialized trading streets, as well as develop traditional markets into tourist attractions, thereby making the district more beautiful, and branding it as an attractive place to live and visit.

According to Mr. Le Tu Gia Thanh, the Chairman of the Hai Chau District People's Committee, one of the district’s key tasks for 2023 is renovations and upgrades of specialized trading streets in addition to developing night markets, focal markets, and food streets into tourist attractions.
Many specialized trading streets for shopping, eating, and entertainment like Le Duan, Nguyen Van Linh, Phan Chau Trinh, Tran Phu, Hung Vuong have been developed in the district to meet the growing demand from local residents and tourists.
At a recent meeting to review the performance of the Huynh Thuc Khang Breakfast Street Project, local relevant agencies gave their ideas for traffic arrangements and landscape renovations to make this area more spacious and clean. Heed will be paid to upgrading the Huynh Thuc Khang Breakfast Street into the food street.
Regarding the renovation of Le Thanh Nghi Street, Hoa Cuong Bac Ward authority has established self-managed business groups, and voted to choose their leaders in order to boost their cooperation with relevant units to keep the street beautiful and clean, ensure security and promote civilized behaviours among traders. Importance has been attached to working with PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage to install 10 advertising lightboxes to introduce the food street.
The ‘Cashless Food Street’ made its debut in the district in September 2023.
Mrs. Le Thi Tuyet, the owner of a Vietnamese Grilled Pork Vermicelli shop on Le Thanh Nghi Street, expressed support for the city's plan for developing specialized food streets. She emphasized the necessity of well-coordinated investment management plan to help food service providers to thrive long-term in order to make this street more inviting to domestic and foreign tourists.
In these last days of the year, the Hai Chau 2 Ward authority has inaugurated a new food alley K23 located on Tran Ke Xuong Street, drawing large crowds to try local dishes like fermented fish noodle soup, fish cake noodle soup, Balut, and snail dishes.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Viet Trang, the Vice Chairman of the Hai Chau 2 Ward Authority, expressed confidence in the success of this food alley. The ward has developed a a three-step roadmap for renovations and upgrades of this food alley. In 2024, this place is expected to become a new attraction in Hai Chau 2 Ward, and Hai Chau District as a whole.
Recently, the city has renovated and upgraded the Han Market, aiming to create a check-in points for tourists at the main entrance located on Tran Phu Street, and the eastern entrance of the market on Bach Dang Street. In the development plan for tourism services, the district encourages small traders in Han Market's eating area on Bach Dang Street to extend their operations into evening hours.
Da Nang's industrial sector has worked with Hai Chau District authority to conduct a survey into some specialized trading streets in district. Focus has been paid to organizing a logo design contest to find who can create the best logo for the city’s specialized trading streets. Heed has been paid to implementing the ‘Brilliant lights flourish specialized trading streets’ program on a trial basis.
Hai Chau District is active in working with relevant units to develop a trial plan for a walking street on Bach Dang Street covering a section stretching from the Rong (Dragon) Bridge to the Tran Thi Ly Bridge, night-time tourism services on Nguyen Van Troi Bridge and a park in eastern end of the Nguyen Van Troi Bridge.
In 2024, Hai Chau District will focus on upgrading specialized trading and food streets, as well as developing traditional markets into tourist attractions. Heed will be paid to developing a night-time food area located at the K57 alley on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street. Importance will be attached to developing a pedestrian area on Bach Dang Street, a night-time street near the Dien Hai Citadel, Le Hong Phong Food Street, Tran Dang Ninh Night-time Street, and Co Giang Fabric Street.
Special attention will be paid to working with the Da Nang Institute for Social - Economic Development to develop the ‘Night-time Economic Development in Hai Chau District’ project for the 2021 – 2025 period, a vision to 2030.
