In his recently issued Official Dispatch No. 9927 dated December 20, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assigned the Ministry of Transport to have a plan to upgrade and renovate National Highway 14D as part of the medium-term public investment plan for the 2021 - 2025 period.

The 76km-long National Highway 14D connects the Nam Giang International Border Gate on the Vietnam - Laos border with National Highway 1, Ho Chi Minh Road and central regional seaports, playing an important role in cargo transport.

However, after a long time of being put into use, National Highway 14D has now seriously degraded, causing difficulties for road users.

Currently, the volume of vehicles carrying goods through Nam Giang International Border Gate along National Highway 14D to the Da Nang Port and the Chan May Port in Thua Thien Hue is on the rise. However, with the current situation, it is difficult to ensure convenience and safety for road users.

Additionally, there are often traffic jams on the National Highway 14D, having a direct impact on local people when the road is small but has a high density of transport vehicles. Therefore, it is necessary to upgrade the National Highway 14D to develop the economy and stabilise traffic in the locality, thereby ensuring people's safety.
