Da Nang's downtown district sees positive changes in socio-economic development
Hai Chau District which is the downtown district and the heart of Da Nang, focused on implementing effective solutions according to the 2023 theme ‘The year focusing on unlocking resources, attracting investment, maintaining economic growth and ensuring social welfare'. Therefore, the district yielded positive outcomes in its socio-economic performance, achieving the year’s goals set by the municipal government.

By late November 2023, construction projects in the district had been basically kept on schedule while the disbursement of public investment for construction works and site clearance had amounted to more than VND 95.5 billion.
The district has completed the construction of the Hoa Phuong Do and Tien Sa preschools, as well as delivered these projects to their users. Meanwhile, the Binh Minh Pre-school and the Hoang Van Thu Primary School are under construction while bidding procedures for the construction of the new Cam Van Pre-school are underway.
Especially, a park and a stroll garden which also can be used for parking purposes have been put into use at the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh - Hoang Dieu streets and Thanh Binh Park. These venues serve as ideal places to exercise and engage in physical activity, as well as host community events.
To provide cultural facilities for hosting community events along with cultural and sports actitives, the Hoa Thuan Tay Ward's Cultural Center and the Hoa Thuan Dong Ward's Center of Culture, Sports, and Community Learning have been built. The aforementioned projects have been highly praised by local residents for their stunning and eye-catching designs, along with effective utilization features. Furthermore, rehabilitation of roadbed settlement has been finished at alleys Nos 22, 34, 62, 74, and 86 on Thi Sach Street. In addition, Chau Thuong Van, Duong Thuong, and Mai Di streets have undergone rehabilitation.
According to Mr. Phan Thi Thang Loi, the Vice Chairman of the Hai Chau District People's Committee, in 2023, the district focused on boosting digital transformation in all aspects in an attempt to drive local socio-economic development. In particular, at least 1-2 streets in each wards of the district were chosen to encourage businesses and business households to accept cashless payments in order to promote the development of e-commerce and digital economy.
So far this year, over 3,000 trade service providers operating across 13 wards of the district have accepted such a payment.
The Hai Chau District Economic Office has been developing a cashless payment traditional market model. Over the past year, the district’s six products were re-evaluated as part of the national "One Commune, One Product" Program.
Mr. Nguyen Duc, the CEO of the Hoa Cuong General Production and Business Services Cooperative, stated, "We set up a wifi network in the Hoa Cuong Traditional Market in an effort to promote cashless transactions and encourage traders in this market to boost their online sales to help them increase their revenue and better serve their customers”.
According to data published by the Hai Chau District People Committee, the district's socioeconomic performance in 2023 produced positive results with budget revenue expected to reach VND 1,273 billion, up 0.27% over the year’s estimate. A total of VND 21.76 billion raised from organizations and individuals went to support 338 households to escape poverty (an increase of 9.39% compared to the year’s plan), as well as lift 109 near-poor households out of poverty (up 21.11%).
The district's urban area witnessed positive changes to make it more clean and beautiful. Included were gradually stopping the illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste, removing temporary waste drop-off points, and stopping the illegal posting of classified ads, well-organized activities related to environmental protection, and addressing noise pollution.
In 2024, the district will continue its efforts to achieve its socio-economic development goals while ensuring social order and security, along with national defense.
