Surging demand

During the busy end of year period, many people start online shopping for home appliances, cakes, jams and clothes for their families.

Unlike previous years, instead of struggling to carry many things at a time, Mrs. Dang Thanh Hoa, residing in Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District, now can surf online markets to buy hundreds of types of items for Tet.

She shared that because she is an office worker, so her work schedule is busy at the end of the year until Tet. Therefore, online shopping is her optimal choice.

“Every year, in the days leading up to Tet, I have to make a list of items to buy and run to many markets and supermarkets to search in a state of haste. Shopping online helps me to solve the problems just by taking advantage of the time at home with simple and quick operations" Mrs. Hoa said.

Meanwhile, as for Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thuong, a resident of Man Thai Ward, Son Tra District, in-store shopping is quite inconvenient because she has small children.

She was initially unfamiliar with online shopping but is now proficient.

Mrs. Thuong said she got used to shopping online since she was pregnant. However, she did shopping online on reputable e-commerce platforms.

As Tet is approaching, such items as diapers, toys, milk, and food for children are all available on e-commerce platforms, giving her many choices of safe products. The prices of online items are even cheaper in online markets compared to in physical markets, she added.

Having been involved in the delivery work for 3 years, Mr. Tran Thanh Sang, residing in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District, is busier on the days leading up to Tet due to a surge in the number of goods.

“I also try to work hard in the days leading up to Tet to earn extra income to visit my family on the occasion of Tet. At present, the number of orders is 4-5 times more, so I try to make continuous deliveries to customers. In recent years, the amount of goods ordered during Tet has increased significantly because buyers gradually trust in shopping online.

Safe online shopping

With just one click, customers can easily order necessary products. However, shoppers should be more cautious when shopping online.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, a resident of Thach Thang Ward, Hai Chau District, said in previous days, he ordered some confectionery and jam products in preparation for the upcoming Tet holiday. However, the products he received are all different from the adverting images and cannot be used because they expired. When he contacted the seller, he did not receive a response.

Although online shopping has become more popular in the recent past as it may help consumers save time, buyers also need to be cautious.

Sharing her experience shopping on the online market, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thao, residing in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, said "When buying products, I am very interested in product viewing and warranty policies. In particular, I am also interested in the number of products sold as well as buyer reviews through stars, comments and images to avoid unwanted situations."

The e-commerce market in our country is currently in the development stage with very high annual growth. Along with that, e-commerce activities in Da Nang are in a period of rapid development and strong growth. Especially during Tet, people's shopping demands significantly increase, and many people prefer online shopping. In addition to the convenience that online shopping brings, ensuring consumer rights in shopping activities on e-commerce platforms is extremely important.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Son, Director of the city's Market Management Department, said that in 2023, the Department implemented the project to combat counterfeit goods and protect consumers in e-commerce until 2025 to increase effectiveness and efficiency in anti-counterfeiting work and protect consumer rights in e-commerce activities.

He informed that in the coming time, to protect consumer rights during the 2024 Lunar New Year, the Department will continue to strengthen fights, promptly prevent and thoroughly handle violations of trading pirated, banned, counterfeit and poor quality goods, along with fraudulent activities in e-commerce activities.
