At about 3:30 am on February 6, a large number of people gathered at the Tho Quang Fishing Port for trading activities. The atmosphere of the fish market during the last days of the lunar year is very bustling and crowded.
According to many small traders, many fishing boat return to the Tho Quang Fishing Port after operating off the coast for several days with fully loaded baskets. Therefore, seafood output at the market also rises sharply, but fish prices are relatively stable, without a sudden increase. In the lead-up to Lunar New Year, there is a about 10-15% increase in people’s seafood demand compared to previous months.
Mackerel, tuna, jack fish, cobia and squid are among the best-selling items in recent days. Through surveys, mackerel weighing less than 3.5kg is being sold from VND240,000 - VND250,000/kg, whilst mackerel weighing over 3.5kg is priced at VND280,000 - VND300,000/kg. The price of beef tuna (over 2kg) ranges from VND100,000-VND110,000/kg, and that of striped tuna (over 3kg) from VND60,000-VND80,000/kg.
According to the Management Board of the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf, from February 1 - 6, a total of 2,173 fishing vessels and vehicles operated at the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Seafood Wholesale Market. Of which, 167 were fishing boats, and 2,006 were cars and trucks. The output of seafood transported through the port was 360.6 tonnes, of which the output transported by fishing boats was 150 tonnes and by car was 210.4 tonnes.
